Music Tour to Western Australia

On Sunday February 18 the Legends Band along with 22 music students from Lilydale Heights headed to Melbourne Airport to fly to Western Australia for our combined Music Tour for six days. While in WA we stayed at the Fremantle Prison which has been turned into a YHA and we got to sleep in old prison cells!

We were lucky enough to be in Perth at the same time as Dr Rob McWilliams, and he workshopped with our band for two hours providing us with great musical insight and many musical things to think about as we continue to hone our skills. We also visited John Curtin College of the Arts where we performed for their students, they performed to us, and we workshopped a new piece together. It was a great afternoon with a band of about 90 students!

A musical highlight of the tour was our last performance where we performed to 350 Gr 4-6 students at Mount Hawthorn Primary School. They were a great audience and sang along to us playing our final piece, themes from the movie, Moana.

In addition to the musical activities, we were tourists and visited Rottnest Island where we all aimed to get a selfie with a Quokka; some were more successful than others.

While there we also took part in a boat or bus tour and had some free time to explore what the island had to offer. We also had some time to explore historical places around Fremantle and the shops and King’s Park in Perth.

We all had a great time exploring a different part of our country with our new friends from Lilydale Heights College and are looking forward to the next Music Tour! A big thank you to Mr Donald and Kerry for coming along on the tour.
