Message from the

School Principal

Mrs Kaylene Carlin

Dear Sacred Heart Families & Friends,

Term One is proving to be one full of activity & energy, with many opportunities to enact the vision and mission of Sacred Heart as a school community.

Yesterday's Colour Run was a wonderful example of what it means to come together as a school community, to celebrate and unite for a common cause - our children. Thank you to the parents who worked tirelessly to run the event and Megan DiClemente, Joh Else and Bec Greaves for their fantastic organisation. Thank you also to the staff who worked alongside the parents, especially Erin, Andrea and Michael. There are lots more photos to come and we look forward to beginning works on playground projects with the funds raised. Last but not least, a huge thank you to all who attended and raised money for the school. It is greatly appreciated.

Animated Learners - Curiosity, Wonder, Growth & Creativity

As educators, we have come together with an open heart and open mind to delve into Discovery & Inquiry Learning with Jarryd. Teams collaborated to design learning for children, planning Rapid Cycles & modelling creativity to promote student engagement and agency.

Relationships - Connections & Togetherness

Beginning 2024 has seen new beginnings for many children, educators & families. We’ve warmly welcomed new staff, Prep children and children in other year levels. “It takes a village..” and the warmth and friendliness has been evident in so many ways. Educators have also started building connections with their new class, getting to know one another and the families.

Animated Learners & Relationships

Year 1 Teddy bears picnic/Afternoon at school. It was great to see the children display teamwork, collaboration and resilience throughout the day.

Dialogue & partnership

A special part of our role as educators is dialogue. It has been fantastic to see the dialogue happening between staff and families through our parent info slides and morning/afternoon chats. We are building strong connections and the value that we hold about partnership between home and school is evident. As we have introduced our new InitiaLit program there has been lots of dialogue between the P-2 team and leaders. Educators are supporting each other, asking questions and learning together.

We warmly welcome Aaron Greaves to the School Advisory Council as the new parent representative. Aaron will serve on the council for a three year term and we look forward to the contributions and energy he will bring to the council. A special thank you to Marlene Monahan, Sacred Heart parishioner and SAC member, who engaged in the interview and decision making process with me. Marlene's insights and perspective are invaluable.

Have a wonderful long weekend families and friends.

I remain yours in faith and gratitude,

Kaylene Carlin

Hall Works & Refurbishment

The main entry doors to the school hall have been out of action since the end of 2023. It has taken some time to identify the cause. After some investigation by builders and engineers, it has been determined that the eastern side of the hall near the kitchen has dropped causing the door to come out of alignment. The next step was to determine why this was occurring and we now have an answer to this. Over the next school holiday period, builders will be rectifying the problem with essential work that has been identified. Unfortunately this means that Camp Australia will not be able to operate during the school holiday period. Students will be able to attend another program at Kingsville Primary School. Please contact Camp Australia directly should you require care for your child during the holiday period.

Parent Year Level Representatives - School Advisory Council Initiative

Dear Sacred Heart School Community,

As we gear up for the 2024 school year, the Sacred Heart School Advisory Council is seeking dedicated parents to step into the role of Parent Representatives for year levels. We are reaching out to caregivers across all year levels to actively contribute to fostering family and community engagement within our Sacred Heart community.

Parent Representatives will play an important role in:

  • Brainstorming and actively contributing to fundraising efforts
  • Involving the Sacred Heart parish in the broader school community
  • Organising social events to strengthen connections between families
  • Serving as a reliable point of contact for families with children attending Sacred Heart

If you are passionate about making a positive impact and would like to be a part of shaping the 2024 school year experience, we encourage you to express your interest in becoming a Parent Representative.

Please email the School Advisory Council at sac@shnewport.catholic.edu.au.

We look forward to hearing from you and working together to make Sacred Heart an even more enriching educational environment.

Successful Parent Representatives will be invited to attend the next School Advisory Council meeting at 7:00pm on Tuesday April 30th. Warm regards, Sacred Heart School Advisory Council

Parking in and around Sacred Heart

A reminder to please ensure those parking around the school to drop off or pick up children to park legally and with consideration to our neighbours. Residents in surrounding properties need to be able to get in and out of their properties and driveways without being blocked by cars belonging to Sacred Heart families. We thank you for your consideration in this matter.
