Well, we have all made it to the first closed weekend of the year. This is an opportunity for students to return home and have a break from College life and share their learning and experiences with family and friends. It is also an opportunity for both students and staff to recharge their batteries after a full and productive start to the year.
Swimming Carnival
Yesterday saw students participate in the annual swimming carnival. It was great to see the positive and high level of involvement from the students that were present. Adding to the day, the weather was fantastic. I was very impressed with the number of students who joined into the spirit of the carnival by dressing or colouring up in their faction colours – well done to all.
Finally, a special thankyou to the staff for their support and involvement, especially Ms Stringer who always organises and provides the students a very memorable carnival – thanks Jenny! There will be more details and photos elsewhere in the newsletter.
College Board
Information has been sent out parents of Year 10 and 12 students in relation to the two vacancies on the College Board. Interested parents are encouraged to nominate, please refer to the information in the email which was provided and in particular the closing date and time.
RTO Re-Registration
The College is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and is due to undergo re-registration this year by 30th June 2024. Maintaining the RTO status is critical to the College being able to continue to deliver and certify the nationally recognised training that it currently offers. The first part of this process is to have the re-registration application and supporting documentation uploaded by the end of February. This has been done and thanks must go the Farm, Trades, Admin Clerical and Administration staff for their combined efforts in preparing and submitting the re-registration application by the due date. Updates will be provided as to the progress of the re-registration.
Harvey Ag Family
‘Aggie’, is the term used to describe a student who has or is currently attending an Ag College as part of their schooling. Students who come to Harvey, become part of the Harvey Ag Family. There are often times when members of the Harvey Ag family get together. This could be an Open Day, wedding, reunion or a funeral, which was the situation this week.
On Wednesday 28th February 2024 the Aggies came together to pay their respects, reflect on the positive influence and to remember and celebrate the life of Fred Venables (Venos to the students and spelled LEGEND). Fred was a well-respected staff member by both staff and in particular students. He imparted his knowledge and skills to so many Aggies over his time at the College.
A call was put out via social media for any 'Aggies' who were attending the funeral to bring their Akubra and to form a guard of honour at the cemetery as a sign of respect and acknowledgement of Fred’s influence on them and the importance of what being an 'Aggie' means. There were some 100 'Aggies' from across the years of Fred’s time at the College who were able to attend his funeral.
As Principal of the College, it was certainly a privilege to witness this – thank you to all who attended. Remember once an 'Aggie', always an 'Aggie'! Take care and look after each other.
Enjoy the long weekend!
