Shrove Tuesday

Last Tuesday morning, there was a wonderful gathering in the Junior School quadrangle. The Year 6 students, together with our Senior Students, provided a pancake stall as a way of signifying Shrove Tuesday. The girls managed to raise over $700 for Caritas Australia, which is the Catholic Church’s international aid agency. It was fantastic to see such community spirit and joy amongst all our students. We look forward to participating in many more community fundraising efforts over the coming Lenten season to support those in need.

Co-Curricular

This term, it has been great to see all the cocurricular activities come to life. We have a huge range of options available for all our students, ranging from creative art and robotics to ballet, gardening, and environmental science clubs, just to highlight a few. Additionally, there are numerous opportunities in sports and music. It brings me joy to see our students actively participating and exploring new experiences with their peers.

Year 6 Assembly

Last Friday, our Year 6 students presented our first assembly for the year. Among the various themes they discussed, one stood out prominently - the importance of fostering a Growth Mindset. The students eloquently conveyed the message that with dedication and perseverance, anything is achievable. They emphasised a simple concept: the power of the word "yet". This tiny word holds immense potential for growth and success. It signifies patience and effort, acknowledging that great accomplishments require time and hard work. While the journey may not always be easy, embracing this mindset opens doors to endless possibilities. I eagerly anticipate watching our students adopt this concept in the upcoming year.

Year 3 Health and SEAD

Life Education visited the Junior School during Week 3. The girls loved being in the Dome with Harold the Giraffe puppet, a friendly and approachable mascot for teaching children about topics like healthy living, self-esteem, and making good choices.

Educators talked to the Year 3 girls about friendship and feelings, specifically focusing on being a good friend. Students learnt about empathy, the concepts of asking consent, having tricky conversations with friends, and feelings associated with big changes. They practised mindful breathing to help calm their body and regulate their emotions.

They talked about how to support each other when someone is feeling down. Together, we discussed how sharing our feelings and being kind to our friends can make our friendships even stronger.

We also talked about decisions and giving consent, the right to say "yes" or "no" to things that affect us, like hugs, games, or sharing personal information. Learning about consent helps students understand that it's important to respect each other's feelings and boundaries in our friendships.

Thank you to Director of Wellbeing Programs (R-12), Ms Lydia Baccanello, for organising these visits for our Junior Students.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year, is a significant holiday in Chinese culture. It signifies the start of the Lunar New Year and is celebrated with family get-togethers, cultural traditions, and hopes for a prosperous new year.  It marks the new beginning for us. The students in the Junior School have been busy getting into the spirit of the Lunar New Year. The students have been busying making lanterns, dragon masks, the red envelopes and having fun using our chopstick skills to pick up lollies. The students also wore red ribbons in their hair to celebrate the coming of the Chinese New Year.

The Lantern Festival is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, signalling the conclusion of the Chinese New Year festivities. This year, Year 5 students crafted lanterns for the occasion, and these lanterns are displayed in the Junior School Quad and the Year 3 locker area.
