Visual Art Prep
In Prep Art, we have continued our conversations about expectations through building our collaborative Essential Agreement. We have intentionally unpacked and taught in sync, the same attributes as the Prep Team. Over the last few weeks, students have had fun tracing their handprints onto their house colour piece of paper. This brought understanding around belonging and creating knowledge of their school houses, as well as an introduction to basic elements of Art including line and colour. Students celebrated Lunar New Year through creating a handprint puppet dragons and a mosaic Chinese lantern (as an extension activity). The dragon puppets were made using colour slicks (smooth, soft and vibrant paint sticks). Please feel free to come and check out their incredible work which is located on our Prep Art and Wellbeing wall outside Prep C, Miss Krajsic's classroom. I am so proud of all our Preppies and their amazing start to the year.
Visual Art Years 1-6
Our art classes for grades 1 to 6 have been buzzing with creativity and growth. Students have smoothly settled into their classrooms, establishing routines that support exploration and expression. We've focused on fostering strong relationships among classmates and teachers, encouraging collaboration and respect. Additionally, we've laid the groundwork for an inclusive environment through essential agreements. Alongside this, we've explored essential art elements and principles of design, providing a solid foundation for our young artists. We're excited about the progress and passion we've seen and look forward to the artistic journey ahead.

Physical Education
In P.E, our year 3-6 students have been hard a work practicing our skills for the upcoming athletics carnival. We have been working on our high jump skills where students have been engaging in watching some exemplars from past Olymipcs then applying this during our practical classes.
Our P-2 students have started practicing their ball bouncing and passing. We look forward to seeing students progress with these students into a game of basketball.
We were also lucky enough to have players from North Melbourne football club come and give a talk to one of our year 1 classes.
Congratulation to our new swimming captains: Sarisha, Aser, Tanya and Cyrus. They led our school at the recent swimming carnival.
Stay tuned for results.
Spanish
¡Hola a todos!
We are thrilled to share the exciting journey our students have embarked on in their Spanish language learning adventure! From the youngest minds in Prep to the bright Grade Six students, each grade has been participating in all aspects of the Spanish language and culture learning.
Our little learners in Prep to Grade Two have been busy painting their linguistic palette with the vibrant colours of the Spanish language. Through engaging activities and interactive games, they've mastered the names of colours, numbers, days of the week, months of the year and follow simple directions and instructions in Spanish.
Moving up the grades, our students in Grade Three and Four have been on a journey to understand and express their feelings in Spanish. Learning to communicate emotions in a new language opens a window to cultural nuances and fosters a deeper connection to the Spanish-speaking world. Students have been able to continue practising numbers and colours in Spanish listening and watching Spanish songs and videos in Spanish.
For our accomplished Grade Five and Six students, the focus has been on exploring the diverse Spanish-speaking countries. Each student has chosen their favourite Spanish-speaking nation and is crafting a captivating brochure filled with interesting facts. From the ancient history of the Incas in Peru to the rhythmic beats of salsa in Cuba, these students are not only honing their language skills but also becoming cultural ambassadors, sharing the wonders of their chosen country with their peers. Students have been practicing numbers and colours in Spanish and reinforcing how to greet teachers and peers in Spanish.
As we witness the growth and enthusiasm in our Spanish language learners, it's evident that language acquisition goes beyond memorization; it's about connecting with the people, culture, and traditions that shape the language.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates as our students continue their Spanish language journey, building bridges across cultures and embracing the beauty of linguistic diversity.
¡Hasta luego!

DANCE.
Term 1 is in full swing in the dance studio with classes and rehearsals running back to back throughout the days. Students in classes have come in eager, happy and excited to be once dancing again.
In class we have been learning about different levels, and working on opposite sides with opposite arms while incorporating angles in the process. Students have been very engaged in the studio vocalising their thoughts and outlook in the theory and mindset behind what we’ve been teaching. Creating a positive open mind to our learning and tasks at hand, we have discussed and implemented practises and the right approach to gain effective results in all we do, both in and out of school.
Our senior dance extension students have begun rehearsals for the Wakakirri Project coming up in July. This is a full scale performance with an in-depth story based on this years theme of “Belonging”. Our year 4, 5 and 6 students have been working so hard and have connected as a team so well already, showing amazing skills and team work, focussed on the big show ahead!
Or VSSS (Victorian State School Spectacular) students are full swing into rehearsals learning some of the choreography already sent out for the Big show in September. They are getting ready and preparing for our first upcoming combined schools Hub rehearsal in 3 weeks time. We have so many excited new students on board for this years VSSS team who made it into the selected group of 16 members represented by each school.
We would also like to send out a huge CONGRATULATINS to our former VSSS 2023 team member Michaela Goh from 7G! Michaela auditioned recently over a couple of weekends for the VSSS principal dancers cast for this years Spectacular, and has become the very first student from Saltwater P-9 College to represent our school and community on the main stage! She mentioned this to me last year that it was a goal of hers to make it up there, and with the focus, determination, hard work, and love and support from all those around her she has achieved this amazing goal and opportunity! Congratulations again Michaela, we are all so proud of you and can’t wait to see you shine up there on the main stage at VSSS 2024!
This year is going to be huge for Saltwater and dance and we are so proud of everyone on board and the amazing start they’ve had so far!
