Indigenous Perspectives

It was truly wonderful, and such a beautiful display of our amazing community, to see so many St Mary’s students, families and staff at the Womin Djeka Festival on Saturday, where together we celebrated and honored First Peoples Cultures.

A huge thank you and much gratitude to the families and staff who volunteered their time to assist at our interactive and engaging school stall. From Prep to Year 6, our students demonstrated inspiring leadership skills, welcoming and assisting visitors at our stall, planting seeds, sharing learning and insights from their STEM, Permaculture and Art lessons at school, making bookmarks, drawing and colouring. Thank you also to the many families who attended the festival, came and said hello and shared in a fantastic day.

From making bush animals and grass and string dolls and sculptures, ochre painting and indigenous games, to wood burning on tiles, clay sculptures, jewellery making, weaving, dancing and so much more - there was lots of fun for everyone. Demonstrating our commitment to Reconciliation, the day was a fabulous event where the community gathered to share, begin conversations and walk with First Peoples.
