The year 10 cohort has had a busy start to 2024 to commence their VCE Vocational Major journey. Students in this year level have been engaging well in their fortnightly timetable which includes Literacy, Numeracy, Personal Development Skills, Industry & Enterprise, Cooking, Art, Health and Physical Education. Students have had an array of opportunities available to them including attending the Careers in Sport Expo at Ikon Park, undertaking a Barista course to increase employability options and attending Whittlesea Technical School (WTS) at Melbourne Polytechnic to explore and enhance their technological skills.
Year 10 students have had a great start to their Monday morning cookery sessions this year with Russell our VET cookery teacher. Students have enjoyed preparing and tasting a range of dishes including handmade pizzas, curries and toasties. The program aims to improve student’s confidence in the kitchen by exposing them to a range of basic methods of cookery in a safe and enjoyable learning environment. We look forward to seeing what tasty dishes the students will be preparing throughout Term 2!
Some students have been able to secure their Structured Workplace Learning placement and have commenced this on their allocated days. If your child is yet to obtain a WTS, please note they have been provided with a contact log sheet on their Google Classroom to record all contact made with potential employers. Students without a SWL in Term 2 will be required to attend school and work on obtaining one with support from staff.
Next term will also see students attending Mainfreight Warehousing in Epping and consent can be provided via Compass. Students will also continue attending WTS with direct links to the curriculum and will be involved in a range of activities. We look forward to another productive term and hope students return feeling refreshed and ready to embrace greater learning opportunities
The year 11’s have had a successful start to their senior studies in 2024. They have been able to work diligently to complete their studies throughout the term and ensure Peter Lalor secondary College has been a safe and happy environment for every individual. Students have been able to participate with enthusiasm in various PDS tasks, whilst working hard to keep up with the high demands in Literacy, Numeracy and WRS. We had the opportunity to attend the Barista course where students were able to make various coffees and expand their skills/knowledge within the Barista Industry. Students have been able to work together to further develop their social skills and work together as a cohort to support each other during term 1. I am proud of their efforts thus far and wish them a successful year going forward.
The Year 12 cohort have had a positive start to the year, with students displaying a focused work ethic and engagement across all learning programs.
The year began with the Year 12 Camp at Malmsbury, over three days from Wednesday 31st of January to Friday 2nd of February. The camp consisted of a range of team building and challenging practical activities. The students are to be commended for their outstanding courage, effort and resilience in completing these activities.
On Thursday the 14th of March, the students attended the Victorian Careers and Employment Expo, at the Melbourne Showgrounds. This enabled them to gain information about a range of courses and future career opportunities.
And on Thursday the 21st of March, the students attended the Formula One Grand Prix, at Albert Park. This excursion enabled them to complete Learning Outcomes linked to the subject areas of Literacy, Personal Development Skills and Work-Related Skills.
I would also like to thank the students for their commitment to their VET studies this term. In particular, congratulations to the following recipients of Student of the Week:
I would like to thank all teachers and Educational Support (ES) Staff of Year 12 classes, for their ongoing support, education, and guidance of the students.
