Turning Words into Action: Student Voice
We would like to congratulate Charlotte Mathias-Colerio on her outstanding achievement and for using her voice to make a positive difference in our school community.
As part of her preparation for NAPLAN, Charlotte wrote a persuasive text to our Principal, Angie Mastoras, about the importance of Nude Food and reducing waste at school. Charlotte presented a well-reasoned and convincing argument, demonstrating excellent writing skills and a passion for environmental sustainability.
Her persuasive writing was so effective that St Roch's will be introducing Nude Food Tuesdays beginning next term! Charlotte also confidently presented her speech at our school assembly to help launch this exciting initiative.
Adding to her success, Charlotte's writing was selected from over 3,000 entries to be published in The In Mag—an incredible accomplishment that highlights her talent as a writer.
Congratulations, Charlotte, on your initiative, leadership and commitment to making a positive impact. Please enjoy reading Charlottes's article below.
OUR SCHOOL MUST BE A NUDE FOOD SCHOOL
Dear Mrs M,
I have recently been pondering about how to prevent litter in our school year and I thought, what if our school becomes a nude food school?
Firstly, I believe that our school must be a nude food school because all that litter will attract birds. The birds will gobble up the litter and the poor creatures will get poisoned and die.
Secondly, I believe that our school must be made a nude food school because the school yard will look a lot tidier. Yes, I understand that some foods perish without wrappers and the result of that will be a waste of food and a GROSS smelling lunchbox, but we can email a note to parents telling them not to pack those foods in students’ lunchboxes.
Thirdly, I believe that our school must be a nude food school because there will be much less work for the students and the staff to pick up all that litter and keep our school neat and tidy. We won’t be giving up fun time on Friday afternoons picking up litter!
In conclusion, I believe that our school absolutely must be a nude food school because less birds will die, the school yard will be tidier, and staff and students will not have to give up their Friday afternoons picking up rubbish.
