Monday 24th - Friday 28th August is Book Week!

For the weeks around, and during Book Week, we will be hosting a range of activities. Students will get to see performances, hear authors speak about their writing and be able to dress up as a favourite book character.

Below are just a few of the events happening to celebrate books.

  • Foundation - Year 2 students will see Perform Education present their 2026 Book Week performance "Something Special" on Wednesday 19th August
  • Authors will be coming to visit!
    • Foundation - Year 2 will have Adrian Beck speaking to them on the 2nd September
    • Years 3 and 4 will have Jake Minton speaking to them on the 26th August
    • Years 5 and 6 will have Amelia Mellor speaking to them on the 3rd September
  • Dress Up Day will occur on the Friday 28th August. Students are encouraged to come as a favourite book character (if they can bring the book as well, that's a bonus!). There will be a parade at 9.10am on the synthi for families and friends (weather permitting). Prizes will be given to creative costumes or to students who best embody their chosen character.

Scholastics Book Fair will be held the week before Book Week this year. From the 17th August until the 20th August students will be able to browse and purchase books from the book fair. The fair will also be open before and after school for half an hour each day. More details to come!

Challenge book list

The Challenge book list has lots of books to choose from. Most of the books that students read during the Challenge should be taken from the list. It is important that students:

  • Read books appropriate for their year or reading level
  • Check with their teacher or parent/carer if they want to read a book from the list for years 9 and 10 students, if they are not in those year levels (this list includes titles for mature readers).
  • Students can also count books read for the MS Readathon in the Challenge.

Read a certain number of books

During the Challenge, a student will read a certain number of books that are suitable for them. While the number of books can be varied for a student, the general guidance is:

  • Prep to Year 2: Read a total of 30 books, with 20 or more of those books from the Challenge book list

  • Year 3 to Year 9: Read a total of 15 books, with 10 or more of those books from the Challenge book list
