Biggest Morning Tea at Brooklyn Park

Marni Greenwood, Head of Junior School, Brooklyn Park (ELC – Year 6)
A wonderful part of belonging to a Christian community is having opportunities to serve and bless others. At Emmaus, it is our desire to teach our students the value of giving and helping others in service, just as Jesus modelled to us in His ministry on earth. Our Emmaus Christian College Outreach (ECCO) team does an incredible job of leading us in this, working diligently to create opportunities to put love into action and support people in our community who are in need.
Here at Brooklyn Park, a group of volunteer Year 6 students has been invited to be part of the student ECCO team, working under the guidance of Mrs Lauren Hughes and Mr Joel Overweel to lead service opportunities for our Brooklyn Park students. Each term, they organise at least one event for our community.
During Week 7, the ECCO team organised for each part of the Brooklyn Park community to take part in Australia’s 'Biggest Morning Tea'. Over the course of the week, students, staff, and parents were invited to purchase a morning tea pack, with all proceeds donated to the Cancer Council. As you can imagine, this was a significant organisational undertaking!
A group of amazing parent volunteers generously gave their time throughout the week to prepare food for this event. This included chopping fresh fruit, making much-loved treats such as chocolate crackles and jelly cups, mixing hot chocolates, and packing over 300 individual snack bags. Their willingness to serve behind the scenes was instrumental in making the event such a success. Our student ECCO team also played a special role by thoughtfully writing individual thank you cards, which were included with the morning tea packs purchased by parents.
I am so pleased to share that together we raised an incredible total of $ 3,285.16 for the Cancer Council! This is a wonderful achievement and a true testament to the generosity of our school community.
This event was a great reminder of what can be accomplished when we come together with a shared purpose to serve and bless others. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, resources, and energy to support this event. We are so grateful for your partnership and involvement, and we look forward to continuing to find meaningful ways to serve others and put love into action as a community in the future.
