Staff Spotlight

About me

My name is Michaela, and I am a primary school teacher from Ireland. I moved to Australia in January of this year and have really enjoyed beginning this new chapter of my life. I grew up in rural Ireland and come from a German-Irish background. I speak three languages, which is something I am very proud of. I am also a very sporty person and have played several Irish sports at county level. In my spare time, I enjoy going for a good run, having a coffee at the weekend, and travelling whenever I get the opportunity.

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is centred around inclusivity, active learning and the Froebelian approach. I believe that every child is unique and should feel valued, respected and included within the classroom. I aim to create a positive and supportive learning environment where all children feel confident to express themselves, take risks and develop a love of learning. I strongly believe in active learning, as children learn best when they are engaged, curious and given opportunities to explore and learn through hands-on experiences. My teaching is also influenced by the Froebelian approach, which recognises the importance of play, creativity, nature and the whole child. I believe children should be given the time and space to explore their interests, develop their independence and learn through meaningful experiences.

Education

In terms of my education, I attended a Catholic primary school for eight years before completing five years of secondary school, which is the equivalent of high school in Australia. I then went on to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Political Law, Anthropology and Geography. Following this, I completed a Master’s degree in Primary Education at university. My educational background has given me a broad range of knowledge and experiences, which I now bring into my teaching practice and use to support and inspire my students.
