Principal's Report

Evan MILLER
Principal
As we reach the end of Term 2, it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what has been another busy, successful and rewarding term. Looking back over the past few months, I am incredibly proud of all that our students and staff have achieved together. Our school has been filled with learning, celebration, opportunity and connection, and it has been fantastic to see our community embrace every opportunity that has come its way.
Throughout the term, our students have participated in a wide range of experiences that have enriched their learning beyond the classroom. We proudly commemorated ANZAC Day with a respectful and moving whole school assembly, recognising the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country. Our student leaders also did an outstanding job organising and leading our Harmony Day celebrations, promoting the importance of inclusion, respect and celebrating the diversity that makes our school community so strong.
Preparing students for life beyond school has remained a key focus this term. Our Careers Expo provided valuable opportunities for students to explore future pathways, while our Year 9 Morrisby Interviews helped students gain a greater understanding of their strengths, interests and future possibilities. We also welcomed many families to our Year 9 and 10 Subject Selection Parent Information Night, supporting students and parents as they begin making important decisions about future learning pathways.
Learning and continuous improvement have also been at the forefront for our staff. Earlier this term we held a whole school Curriculum Day to launch our new instructional model, providing a shared vision for high-quality teaching and learning across the school. This important work will continue throughout the year as we strengthen consistency in classroom practice and continue to improve learning outcomes for every student.
Our students have also enjoyed many memorable co-curricular opportunities. We were incredibly proud of our talented musicians who represented our school at the NEVR Youth Concert at the iconic Hamer Hall, showcasing their dedication and musical excellence. Students also participated enthusiastically in Round Robin Sport, demonstrating teamwork, resilience and excellent sportsmanship throughout the competition. Our Monash Tech School excursions provided engaging, hands-on learning experiences, allowing students to explore emerging technologies and future industries in authentic learning environments.
Senior students have worked diligently throughout the term as they continue preparing for their future studies. Our Year 10 students completed their examinations and the General Achievement Test (GAT), while our Year 12 students enjoyed a well-deserved opportunity to connect socially at the Year 12 Movie Night. Across all year levels, our Sub School Assemblies have celebrated student success, reinforced our school values and recognised the many achievements of our students throughout the term.
One of the highlights of our school calendar took place today with our annual Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Ice Bucket Challenge fundraiser. This much-loved tradition gives students the opportunity to nominate members of staff to receive an icy bucket of water in support of raising funds to help fight MND. Beyond the fun and laughter, it is a wonderful example of our students coming together to support an important cause, demonstrating generosity, compassion and community spirit. Thank you to everyone who donated, participated and helped make this year's event another tremendous success.
None of these opportunities would be possible without the dedication and commitment of our staff. Every day they go above and beyond to provide engaging learning experiences, support student wellbeing and create opportunities for students to thrive. I sincerely thank all staff for their professionalism, passion and unwavering commitment to our school community.
I would also like to acknowledge the ongoing support of our families. Your partnership with the school plays a vital role in your child's success, and we greatly appreciate the encouragement, trust and involvement you show throughout the year.
As many families will be aware, the proposed in-principle agreement between the Australian Education Union (AEU) and the Department of Education was recently voted down by AEU members. As a result, negotiations between the AEU and the Department will continue. We have also been advised that the suspension of industrial action has now been lifted, with industrial action expected to recommence in Term 3. We understand that families may have questions, and we will continue to share updates and any relevant information as it becomes available.
As Term 2 draws to a close, I encourage all students and families to enjoy a well-earned break. The holidays provide an important opportunity to rest, recharge and spend quality time with family and friends before another exciting term of learning begins.
On behalf of all our staff, thank you for your ongoing support throughout the term. I wish everyone a safe, happy and relaxing holiday break, and I look forward to welcoming all students back refreshed, ready to learn and eager to make the most of the opportunities that await us in Term 3.
VCAA 2026 - Have your say on VCE Studies consultation survey
Please see below a message from VCAA.
To ensure we maintain rigorous standards and a coherent, student-centred approach, the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) is seeking feedback from key stakeholders through the '2026 Have your say on VCE Studies consultation survey'.
We value the input from diverse voices across the education sector and encourage students, teachers, parents and carers, education providers, subject associations, industry representatives, community groups and other interested stakeholders to complete the survey.
The survey takes approximately 5 - 10 minutes to complete and invites feedback on the VCE study designs as part of our ongoing monitoring and evaluation of VCE studies.
The survey is anonymous and will close on Monday 10 August.
The survey can be accessed at Consultation survey: 2026 Have your say on VCE Studies.
