Career Conversation

The Value of Human Skills Human Skills, sometimes called ‘enterprise’ or ‘employability’ skills are essential for your teen’s success at school, work, and in life. Skills like communication, problem-solving, and adaptability aren’t just important in the classroom - they’re what future employers will look for in every industry, especially as technology continues to evolve skills and ways of working. By helping your teen develop these skills, you’re setting them up for lifelong success, no matter which pathway they choose.

Casual conversations help teens develop awareness of their strengths. You can start these conversations with open-ended questions such as:

What did you learn from solving that problem today?

How did you work with your team at school?

These discussions promote self reflection and teach teens how to articulate their skills. Encourage them to share their wins and challenges and reinforce skill development as ongoing.
