Principal

Dear Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College Community,

House Cross-Country Competition.

Well done to Travis Newton, Ruby Adkins, Donna Wylie, and Jodie Connell for their organisation and all the staff who assisted in the successful running of our House Cross Country Competition last Tuesday, 23 April. It was great to see students participate and congratulations to Tenison House for winning the day and to all who placed in the various age groups. Details can be found in this Newsletter.

ANZAC Day

On Wednesday, 24 April we commemorated ANZAC Day as staff and students were not present on 25 April. I thank Pat McCarthy for his leadership in organising this respectful service. Thank you to Beth Winterhalter for playing the Last Post and The Rouse and it was wonderful to hear our choir, supported by Meg Doherty, lead us in singing the National Anthem. Additionally, well done to Kian Atyeo-Peters in Year 8 for his contribution.

Well done to Sarah Roscoe Smith and her Year 12 Youth Ministry class as well as the Student Mission Team for their fundraising efforts for supporting the RSL in the work that the organisation faithfully undertakes for veterans.

Year 6 Days

We have already had two very successful days providing Grade 6 students from St Joseph’s in Korumburra and St Laurence O’Toole in Leongatha on Monday, 22 April and Our Lady Star of the Sea in Cowes and St Joseph’s in Wonthaggi on Tuesday, 30 April some learning opportunities we have to offer in Year 7. Next week students from St John the Baptist in  Koo Wee Rup and those from various other Primary Schools will enjoy our hospitality.

I express my thanks to Claire Cassidy and Jodie Connell for their organisation. Thank you as well to Nicole Dudman and our students for the liturgy to start the days and also my appreciation to all staff who worked with the students.

Year 7 2025 Enrolments

I would like to remind all current families that enrolment applications are due on 31 May 2024. Formal applications must be made for students for enrolment into Year 7 next year. We will accept applications after that date, but as a matter of justice, priority will be given to those who have submitted their applications on time.

Student Achievements

Well done to Charlie Graham-Cross (Year 8) who attended the Governor General’s Camp in Canberra. The camp is for young people involved in the Scouts. A highlight for Charlie was an opportunity to participate in the talent show where she sang in front of more than 1000 people. You can read and see more in the Music@MMCRC and Around the College sections.

Congratulations to Xavier Lindsay (Year 12) for his selection in the 2024 Marsh AFL National Academy squad Australia U18 team.

We have had a number of SSV teams compete recently and notable achievements include our Senior Girls Tennis Team securing a place in the State Finals. Other details can be found in this Newsletter.

Staffing News

Congratulations to Kate Dwyer who we have appointed as our new Year 11 Wellbeing Leader.
