Stefan Fodor (Class of 2019)

Name: Stefan Fodor

Graduation Year: Class of 2019

Current Role: Automotive Technician at Penfold Audi in Burwood

Pivotal skills learnt at Koonung Secondary College that are transferable to your career:

Throughout Stefan’s time at Koonung Secondary College, he acquired several essential skills that help him in his role as an Automotive Technician. Two of these skills are; the importance of meeting deadlines and efficiently managing time. These skills are crucial for achieving goals and minimising stress.

What do you like about your current job and what do you find challenging?

Being an Automotive Technician allows you to work with your hands, solve complex mechanical puzzles, and keep vehicles running smoothly. Stefan noted that he really enjoys the team he works with and the constant turnover of vehicles (jobs) he gets to work on; because every ‘job’ is different.

Is your current career path as you originally intended?

Stefan has loved tinkering with cars from a very young age. In his middle school years at Koonung he had a steadfast career goal of becoming an Automotive Technician. This desire gave him a solid goal to work towards throughout his secondary school years. It also meant he knew exactly what he wanted to do for his Year 10 work experience placement. His pursuit of attaining a position in a car dealership for his Year 10 work experience saw him attain a permanent position at Penfold Audi. This was a crucial step in his dream of becoming an Automotive Technician. As the saying goes, he got his foot in the door and the rest is history; he was very fortunate to be offered a job with Penfold Audi shortly after his work experience placement as an Apprentice Automotive Technician.

Advice for Aspiring Automotive Technicians

Stefan’s advice to those wanting to pursue an Automotive Technician career is to approach car dealerships for the opportunity to do a work experience placement.

What advice would you give to your Year 12 self?

Stefan’s words of encouragement are to “never give up and to keep moving towards your dream”. It’s important to stay steadfast on the path toward your aspirations. Persevere and be resilient in the pursuit of what you would love to do.
