Parent Support and Learning

Maria Ruberto is an amazing speaker and a phenomenal Psychologist. She has presented to North Eastern Principals and we completed the Wellbeing First Aid Certificate. We are working at booking Maria to speak to all staff at the end of this term.  An extremely worthwhile event and I hope many of you attend one of these events.  I hope to attend on Monday 13th of May.

Salutegenics will be offering a Parent Workshop investigating the fundamentals of resilience and strategies to foster this crucial process in our children, enabling them to progress in the face of challenges.

We will delve into current research from the World Health Organisation regarding anxiety, discuss dysregulation, the RESET button, understanding the concept of how brains are shaped by our experiences from a neuroscience perspective, and unpacking the theory of biology before behaviour.

Our parent workshops are facilitated by Psychologist and Founder & Director of Salutegenics; Maria Ruberto. Maria has over 30 years of clinical experience, consultant to hellodriven.com, research partner to Southern Cross University and Swinburne University, consulted to Beyond Bluereachout.com, and co-designer of Resilience First Aid – nationally accredited resilience program.

Well done 5/6 GS!

Today the Year 5 and 6 students presented the “Alleluia” part of the Easter story.  It was respectful roleplay and showed reverence.  It was wonderful to see the seniors working together and showcasing their artistic talents.  Well done and thank you to teachers for supporting the students.

Bunning BBQ

Bunnings – DONCASTER – Saturday 1st June

St Kevin’s is hosting a Bunnings BBQ at Doncaster Bunnings on Saturday 1st of June with set up starting at 8am and clean up commencing at 5:30pm. We have 10 amazing parents and carers who have already volunteered to assist and donate goods for the BBQ.  Last year we raised just over $1000 and the challenge is to beat it this year!  Please consider supporting the school at this fun event.  Put your name down to assist,  come and visit and buy a sausage, drink or both. I am sure you will be made to feel welcome!

The money raised this year will go towards external benches and tables!

I will be on duty 8am-10pm and Eva will also assist during the day.    PLEASE MAKE AN EFFORT.  This is a once a year fundraiser!

If everyone from St Kevin’s visited Doncaster Bunnings and bought one sausage I wonder how much money we would raise?

Expected Behaviour:   I move safely

Newsletter Update

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Update

On Monday 15th April, the staff were involved in a Professional Learning day as a continuation of our journey as a Positive Behaviour for Learning school. This day was facilitated by Jo-Ann Patrick from MACS.

The three foci for the day were Systems, Practices and Data. Staff reviewed all PBL systems that we have in place, such as our Expected Behaviour Matrix which outlines positive behaviours we value at school and the Behaviour Flowchart the staff use to assist with managing inappropriate behaviour. Staff spent time evaluating data on all types of student behaviour. The data we collect on student behaviour, informs us of what we need to focus on for teaching and supporting our students. The final aspect of the day was looking at the Practices we have in place at St Kevin’s for monitoring, encouraging and acknowledging student behaviour. On this day we worked on a Staff Agreement for ‘Active Supervision’ within the yard at recess and lunchtime. Staff were required to identify what ‘Active Supervision’ in the playground looks like, feels like and sounds like.

It was a great day for all staff to reflect on what we have done so far as a PBL school, but also to review the practices we have in place to support all of our students at St Kevin’s Primary School.

Over the next few weeks, the focus for SEL lessons will be teaching and reminding students of what it means to be ‘SAFE’ at our school. We believe that when we are safe, we are showing respect and being responsible to others and to ourselves. Students will be discussing and practising what it looks like when we ‘Move Safely’ around the school and remembering to always ‘Keep our Hands, Feet and Objects’ to ourselves.

My highlight this week was a junior student saying ‘I care for my family, friends and nature!’ What an outstanding comment in our year of ‘Let’s Care! Be the difference.
