Live for Lily Foundation

The Children's Cancer Institute published this update:

FAMILY SPOTLIGHT: LIVE FOR LILY

These awesome humans were snapped on this year's Ride for Lily, an annual event organised by the Live For Lily Foundation, which was established in honour of Lily Hester by her parents in 2016.

Lily was diagnosed with an extremely rare liver cancer in July 2013 at just 8 years old and sadly lost her life in 2014. The hope of the foundation is to find a cure for childhood cancer so that no child or parent has to endure what they did.

Since 2016, the Foundation has contributed over $1.6million to the Institute, and proudly supports the first Live for Lily ZERO Senior Scientist, Dr Emmy Dolman. You can learn more about Emmy’s research through this video. Thank you to Aaron & Katie Hester for enabling Emmy to conduct her outstanding research.

Ride for Lily took place last month, bringing together 30 riders conquering 1,000km over 7 days through country Victoria and was in honour of Lily and Alex Preston, who sadly lost his life in October 2009 to medulloblastoma at just 8 years old.

A very big thank you to Alex's parents, Tanya & David, for their incredible advocacy throughout the ride. The ride retraced the journey that the Preston family made when they discovered Alex was suffering from brain cancer.

Congratulations to everyone who took part - together they raised an amazing $272,485 for childhood cancer research - what a phenomenal achievement!
