LITERACY /

LEARNING & TEACHING

Mrs Maria Lontos

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope that everyone had a great Easter break and you are all ready and rested for an exciting and fun-filled Term 2!  After a year long absence on maternity leave, I am back in the Literacy seat, and very much looking forward to some great learning and teaching with our wonderful staff and students.

I have returned in a part time capacity, and will be at school on Wednesdays and Thursdays. However, I am still available via email during the week, so if you have any questions or concerns related to the area of Literacy that you would like to talk through, you are welcome to contact me at school or at mlontos@hnpe.catholic.edu.au and we can make a time to talk in person.

Classroom Helpers

This term we are looking forward to embracing the great assistance provided by our parent community and welcoming classroom helpers back to Holy Name.

Classroom helpers are made up of parents, grandparents and carers of our students, and assist the teachers in the classroom. Often they work with small groups of students to help with reading, writing or other classroom activities.

Classroom helpers are the strongest way to develop partnerships within our school community and enable us to maximise the support needed in individual classrooms to ensure that students are achieving their personal best.

If you would like to be a Classroom Helper this year, please respond to the Operoo form that will go out early next week. Your assistance would be required on a regular basis and times will be negotiated primarily with individual teachers. Based on the expression of interest, a follow up training session will be held in the coming weeks, which is only required if you haven't previously done the training with us.

It is school policy that all classroom helpers have a current Working with Children Check and sign our school's Code of Conduct. These forms for the card are downloadable from the Department of Justice website (http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/). Please note that as you are a volunteer, your card is free.

Premiers' Reading Challenge

This year, after some consideration, we have decided not to participate in the Premiers' Reading Challenge as a school. We understand that this may not be good news for everyone, however at this time, we feel it is best to take a short break. We hope to participate in the challenge again next year in 2025.
