Maths Olympiad in Action
Every Thursday, a dedicated group of high-potential Year 5 and 6 mathematicians have been working with Mrs Frost to prepare for the Maths Olympiad,a challenging problem-solving competition designed to extend and inspire young thinkers.
Each week, students engage in rich, open-ended mathematical tasks that require more than just quick recall. They are developing advanced skills in logical reasoning, pattern recognition, strategy building and creative problem-solving. These sessions offer our gifted learners the chance to be stretched in a supportive environment, working alongside like-minded peers.
We’re excited to share that the group has already completed their first two Olympiad challenges! These 30 minute tests included five multi-step word problems that demanded persistence and deep thinking. We are incredibly proud of the students' efforts and the strategies they used to tackle these tricky tasks without giving up!
This program is part of our commitment as a Newman school to providing targeted extension opportunities that go beyond the standard curriculum. We look forward to seeing how our students grow across the remaining two Olympiad rounds this year.

Well done, mathematicians!
