First Aid in Schools Program

On Monday, all students participated in the St John's First Aid in Schools Program. The following outlines the content covered with each year level.

Prep/

Year 1

Through a storybook, the children will see how Johnny Bear identifies an emergency, puts the Danger, Response and Send for help strategy into action and helps call 000 in an informative session. Students will learn the first aid chant that will help them remember what to do in an emergency. Includes a fun quiz on first aid to get students up and involved.
Year 2Students learn how to spot DANGER in an emergency, RESPOND accordingly and SEND for help. They will be guided on what number to call and act out a scenario to get them comfortable calling 000 in real life. Students will play a fun and interactive game as teams compete in the first aid quiz. By the end of the program, students will leave with essential skills and knowledge which they can call upon in an emergency situation.
Year 3/4Following on from the Prep – Grade 2 modules, students will revise ‘DRS’ which involves assessing for dangers, obtaining a response and calling Triple Zero. The main focus of this module will be demonstrating how to check airway and breathing and how to place a patient into the recovery position. Students will then apply the knowledge they have learnt through an interactive game based on the DRSAB action plan.
Year 5/6Reiterates the learning of standard modules 1 & 2, however, it  incorporates a practical CPR component, guiding students through how to perform CPR and when it is required in a Frist Aid situation. Students will also participate in group problem-solving scenarios based on a variety of first aid situations allowing them to apply their knowledge.

First Eucharist

We keep all our Year Four children in our thoughts and prayers as they receive the Sacrament of First Eucharist this weekend. Thank you to our Year Four teachers and Mrs Richardson (RE Leader) for preparing the children over the last few months, and for also organising the Year Four Reflection Day today. Thank you to Father Michael who will celebrate both Masses for our children and families and a special thank you to all the students (and their teachers) who created many beautiful cards for the Year Four children. These were gratefully received. Our Year Four children will receive the Sacrament of First Eucharist at either the Saturday night (6pm) or Sunday morning (9.30am) Mass.

First Eucharist Reflection Day

The Year 4 students commenced their First Eucharist preparations with a morning Mass at Sacred Heart Parish. Following the liturgy, they engaged in a series of activities designed to deepen their understanding of the sacrament. The day continued with a walk to Kew’s Alexandra Gardens, where students enjoyed a well-earned treat of potato cakes and chips, perfectly suited to the day's weather. It was a meaningful and memorable day for our Year 4 students, who embraced the opportunity to spend time in prayer and reflection. We now look forward to the upcoming weekend, as our Year 4 students prepare to receive the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Sacred Heart extends its warmest blessings to all students and their families as they celebrate this significant faith journey together.

2025 School Closure Days

As was communicated to families last year...

* Time in Lieu (TIL)

The new Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (the Agreement) introduces a formal time in lieu (TIL) process for teachers. The Agreement provides that a principal may require a teacher to undertake work and attend a school activity outside the normal hours of attendance (i.e., in excess of the 38 hours or normal hours for a part-time teacher) and when this occurs, it will attract TIL.

Principals should prepare for the accrual and acquittal of TIL through their annual planning process. The timing of the acquittal of TIL is at the discretion of the principal, having regard to the operational needs of the school and causing the least disruption to the educational program of the school.

Principals may elect to acquit TIL through designating days during the year on which all staff and students are not required to attend school.
