Wellbeing & Engagement

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

This week in our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) program, students explored the important question: “R U OK?”

The lesson focused on recognising when someone might be struggling and learning simple ways to check in with friends, classmates, and family members. Students discussed the power of asking the question, listening with care, and offering support when someone needs it.

By practicing these skills, our students are helping to create a caring and connected school community where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported.

Remember: sometimes a simple “R U OK?” can make a big difference!

Respectful Relationships and Student Wellbeing

Respectful Relationships at Home and School

Helping children respond safely to conflict

At school, we teach students to use safe and respectful strategies when problems arise. We ask for your support in reinforcing these at home.

✅ What to Encourage

  • Walk away from unsafe situations.
  • Use words – speak friendly, speak firmly, and have boundaries and voice them.
  • Seek help from a teacher, staff member, or trusted adult.
  • Stay calm and take a breath before responding.
  • Include others and look out for friends who need support.

❌ What to Avoid

  • Telling children to hit back or retaliate – this can make things worse.
  • Encouraging name-calling, teasing, or put-downs.
  • Ignoring problems until they escalate.

Why it Matters

  • Safe and respectful responses reduce harm.
  • Children learn lifelong conflict-resolution skills.
  • Home and school working together creates a stronger message for our students.

Together, we can help our children grow into confident, respectful, and resilient young people.

Respectful Relationships Education Term 3

This term in RRE, our focus has been on protective behaviours.

  • With our younger students, we have been learning about private parts and understanding that these parts of our body are private and should be respected.
  • Our older students have been learning about safety words. A safety word is a special word that only family members know. It can be used if someone else comes to pick up a child, helping them to check if it is safe to go with that person. Students have also been developing personal safety plans to help them know what to do if a situation becomes risky.

By teaching protective behaviours, we aim to give children the knowledge and confidence to keep themselves safe, make respectful choices, and know how to seek help when needed.

We encourage families to continue these conversations at home, including choosing and practising a family safety word.

Please discuss with your child who their safety team is. Do include a teacher as your children are at school for 6 hours/day.

Student Leadership

Year Five Student Leadership – Term 4

The student leadership selection process will begin in Term 4. Year Five students will have the opportunity to nominate for student leadership positions. Behaviour and attendance will be considered, and students must have a B or above grade for their behaviour.

Student leaders are expected to demonstrate and uphold the school’s GREAT expectations. Parents are encouraged to discuss leadership and the expected behaviours with their children to support them throughout the process. As always, parents are welcome to meet with teachers if they have any concerns regarding their child’s progress.

Chappy's Fruit Cart

A huge thank you to Goondiwindi Foodworks and one of our wonderful grandparents for their generous fruit donation! 🍎🍌🍊

Each Monday and Tuesday, Chappy wheels out her Golden Fruit Cart at break times, delivering fresh fruit to students. What a fun and healthy way to keep our brains and bodies powered for learning!

Father's Day Activities

Chappy organised fun Father's Day craft activities in the library. Many of the students chose to make their dad a Father's day poster to gift to him.

Operation Christmas Child

It’s that special time of year again! Our school is excited to take part in Operation Christmas Child, spreading joy to children around the world.

Students and families are invited to fill a shoebox with gifts, such as toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and a personal note. Each box is a wonderful way to share love, hope, and kindness with a child in need.

Boxes can be brought to school and Chappy Sonia will help ensure they reach children who will truly appreciate them this Christmas.

Let’s work together to make this holiday season bright and joyful for others

Donations can be left in the tubs in the Library. The tubs are in the house colours.
