Student leadership adventure at Rubicon Outdoor School - Nayook campus
Last week, our Student Representative Council embarked on a transformative five‑day leadership journey at the Rubicon Outdoor School, at the beautiful Nayook Campus in East Gippsland.
The Rubicon Outdoor School is operated by the Department of Education and has been delivering specialised camps for secondary school students for over 40 years.
The five‑day program was structured around teamwork and enhancing three leadership styles; peer leadership, self‑leadership and designated leadership. Students tackled decision-making, role delegation, communication, trust-building and resilience through a variety of journey-based adventures.
Mountain biking on off‑road trails where the students guided each other and managed terrain challenges.
A Rafting experience on the Yarra, learning the ropes of guiding the craft while coordinating with teammates.
Hiking Mt St Gwinear, where the students assigned themselves roles and cooperated to lead both peers and instructors during the climb.
These rigorous yet fun experiences encouraged persistence, helping others and effective cooperation.
The evenings were filled with lighter, creative and inspirational activities such as:
Designing and crafting a mini‑golf course challenge with the group.
Watching an inspiring documentary on the Thai soccer team’s rescue during the Tham Luang cave incident, a story that resonated deeply with themes of teamwork, leadership and resilience.
We are thrilled by the growth our SRC members experienced at Nayook. Their time at the Rubicon Outdoor School has not only developed their leadership skills and teamwork but also inspired a lasting commitment to perseverance, communication and community-minded leadership.
The feedback from our students was incredibly positive, with the hike in the snow being a particular highlight.
We look forward to seeing how these newly developed abilities enrich our school community in the months (and years) ahead!
Celebrating women through art: IWD Mural project
Our Art & Design Captain, Cheryl Chow, has continued her work this term on the International Women’s Day mural. This is a project that celebrates the strength, love and impact of women in our lives. The mural features heart-shaped messages written by students earlier in the year, each one dedicated to a woman they admire and appreciate.
This school-wide initiative took place in Term 1, inviting students to reflect and write about a woman who has made a positive difference in their life. The colourful hearts are now being assembled into a stunning visual piece that captures the spirit of gratitude and respect.
Once completed, the mural will be a powerful testament to our Respectful Relationships program and will stand as a visual reminder of PSC’s ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality and fostering a culture of appreciation and inclusion.
