Principal's Report

PRINCIPAL’S NEWSLETTER – April 24, 2026
Dear Families,
Welcome Back
We hope you and your family enjoyed a safe and relaxing break. Over the holidays, a range of maintenance works were completed across the school, particularly relating to roofing and water damage. While many of these improvements are not immediately visible, they are important in maintaining our facilities. We are pleased to share that the hall foyer has now been fully restored and is looking fantastic.
We warmly welcome everyone back for what is shaping up to be a full and exciting term. Our Year 5 and 6 students will be attending their overnight camps, which remain a valued highlight of their school experience. In addition, we will be coming together as a community for events such as our Mother’s Day celebration and Bunnings BBQ, which will support fundraising to further enhance our playground facilities.
Learning and School Improvement
This term includes a strong focus on learning, reporting and student growth.
As this is a reporting term, staff are currently engaged in data analysis to monitor student growth, track progression points, and prepare formal reports, alongside upcoming parent-teacher interviews.
We are also looking forward to hosting our Open Afternoon EXPO, which will showcase the excellent learning taking place across the school.
There is also planned industrial action this term in support of improved funding for Victorian schools and ensuring teaching staff wages are aligned with other Australian states. At this stage, there is no impact on face-to-face teaching and learning. However, some administrative processes, including reporting timelines, may be affected. We will continue to keep families informed as required and thank you for your understanding and support.
Student Leadership and Student Voice
Our student leaders continue to contribute positively to school life and proudly model our values of Respect, Resilience and Citizenship.
Our School Captains will lead our ANZAC Day Assembly and have also organised a “Pyjamas and Popcorn” event on May 15, raising funds to support upgrades to the bike shed.
Our Student Engagement Leaders are actively supporting a range of events this term, including the Mother’s Day celebration, Krispy Kreme Drive, and a Donut and Slushy Day on June 19.
We warmly invite families to our Mother’s Day / Special Persons Morning Tea on Friday May 8. This event will include a coffee van, photo opportunity, light refreshments, classroom activities, and self-guided tours—an opportunity to celebrate and connect as a school community.
Facilities Update
We are pleased with the continued improvements across our school facilities.
The hall foyer carpet has been restored following earlier flood damage. Ceiling tiles in Room 1 have been replaced following unexpected damage caused by possums in the roof, and additional roof repairs have been completed in the middle school area.
Unfortunately, there was also damage caused by unauthorised access to the roof over the holidays, which is both unsafe and concerning. We are currently working through the necessary repairs and reinforcing safety measures.
We continue to work closely with the Department on further roof and classroom maintenance works. I would also like to warmly welcome Mr Gary Squires to our team in the role of Gardening and Maintenance.
Important Reminders for Families
Parking ReminderParent parking is not available onsite. School parking areas are reserved for staff or parents only during their scheduled King’s Swimming lessons. We also ask families to be mindful of neighbouring facilities, including the Pre-School and Health Centre, which have limited parking available.
We are fortunate to have multiple entry and exit points, including Northgateway, Jackson Drive and Bush Court/Burgess Drive, and encourage families to use these where possible. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school safe and accessible for all.
Attendance MattersStudent attendance remains a key priority. Ms Parkes, our Mental Health in Primary Schools Leader, monitors attendance closely and works with families to provide support where needed. Regular attendance is essential for strong learning progress and student wellbeing.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support of our school community. We are proud of the positive culture we are building together and remain committed to developing curious, confident learners.
Kind regards,
Deb Haddow
Principal
