Girls' Tech Day

We were delighted to have the opportunity to take 26 of our students out to participate in this year’s Girls’ Tech Day, an inspiring STEAM initiative sponsored by Amazon and supported by Melton City Council. The event offered a fantastic opportunity for our young women to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics - fields that are rapidly evolving and full of potential.

Throughout the morning, our students immersed themselves in hands on workshops and interactive exhibitions, seeing first hand how their classroom learning translates into real world innovation. Juli (7C) says that a highlight for her was the opportunity to try out "green screen magic where [they] took photos and changed the background." Elena (7D) said that for her the stand out exhibitions were the Jetstar cipher and coding activity in which students needed to "solve a coded message" to determine the correct passengers, as well as a handling a sample of geodes as different types of rocks interests her. 

Another clear highlight was the chance to hear from female role models leading the way in robotics, AI, design, and sport. By sharing their personal career journeys, these speakers provided valuable insights and showed our students the many diverse pathways available to them in the industry.

We are incredibly proud of the curiosity and confidence our students displayed as they connected with industry experts and challenged stereotypes about technology careers. Hannah (7B) reflected that she "got to see all the different jobs in tech that could be great opportunities in the future. It was an empowering experience that not only sparked new interests but also reinforced the idea that our students have the potential to thrive and lead within the world of STEAM.
