Under-15s Touch Football Trials

The recent Under-15s touch football trials were held in Inverell, with both the Glen Innes boys' and girls' squads in attendance.

The girls' team competed against players from Inverell, Macintyre, Tenterfield, and Armidale. The selector for the Girls' Zone team was highly impressed with the skill level on display, and the Glen Innes side was undoubtedly the standout team of the event. Many of the girls have been actively involved in local touch football competitions run by the Glen Innes Touch Association, and their experience and development were evident on the field. Congratulations to Mylie, Paige, Polly, Billie, Aila, Brooklyn, and Skye on their successful selection in the Zone team.

The boys' team also put in a strong performance, with all players gaining valuable experience throughout the trials.  Congratulations to Ethan, Rocco, and Pat on their selection in the Zone team.

These selected players will travel to Tamworth next Friday to trial for a position in the North West team. Best of luck to all the boys and girls representing Glen Innes!

Coleman Shield Cricket Finals

Recently GIHS played Farrer in the Regional  Final of the Coleman Shield cricket. Despite the weather looking dicey the Farrer field was outstanding and the rain held off until later in the day.

Farrer won the toss and elected to bat. But with damp humid conditions Glen felt it was not a bad outcome.

Sure enough the early overs were very eventful with Bailey and Wright troubling the batsmen. Chances went through the slips and with runs hard to come by several runout opportunities arose.

Williams and Berry for Farrer settled after good fortune and went onto to play well. Both scored fluently with Williams eventually being run out for 30. Berry followed shortly afterwards for 42. Both of these innings set a platform for Farrer to go on to make 9 for 176 . The next highest scorer was the sundries contribution at 30 in total. Charlie Hoskins was outstanding in the field cutting off boundaries in the deep and regularly putting pressure on the batsmen with his great throwing arm.

With the bowlers Bailey was threatening at all times but luckless with wickets. It was the Eastwood connection of Horatio Eastwood with 2 for 39 and Max Eastwood with 3 for 13 who most troubled the Farrer middle order.

In response Glen came out for the run chase feeling confident. From opening bowler to batsmen Harrison Bailey continued his strong influence on the match. He compiled a quality 31 and was caught in the covers to his only false shot of the innings. By the time of his exit Rocco Eastwood had settled. He played a wonderful innings with all of the shots hitting 12 boundaries including three sixes. With 5 ducks in the batting order Rocco was running out of partners quickly Tocin and again Hoskins displayed ‘ticker’which allowed Eastwood to farm the strike.

Rocco went onto compile a very entertaining 84 and player of the match honours.

Glen was bowled out for 155 in the 31st over. Farrer conceded 4 sundries.

It was a great match where both teams displayed excellent sportsmanship and character.
