How we organise ourselves

Central Idea

We organise art elements to create our own unique visual language  

Lines of Inquiry   

  • The many ways of mark making and line drawing, experimenting with various techniques, styles, and tools  
  • The magic of colour mixing and the importance of the three Primary Colours  
  • How artists use basic elements to create balance and harmony in their artistic creations

Students Will 

  • Create - Experimenting with mark making and line drawing. Exploring marks made by the side and other parts of the oil pastel to create Pattern Sculptural Forms, inspired by artist Yayoi Kusama.  The students design, paint, and incorporate their experimental mark making to add a decorative element.  

  • Explore - Colour mixing Primary Colours to create Secondary Colours- Introduced with colour books ‘Vashti’s Dot’ and ‘Colours.’ The students experiment and explore colour mixing and shape with a variety of art materials.  

  • Develop - Using the result from the colour mixing experiment to collage and draw a final artwork, inspired by the Spanish artist Miro

  • Observe and describe movements of humans and objects, predicting how things move both inside and outside the classroom.  
  • Classify toys based on patterns in their size, shape, and movement. 
  • Observe push and pull forces, studying how shape, size, and surface impact the rolling movement of objects. 
  • Explore how factors like shape and size affect how objects move, particularly focusing on rolling. 
  • Investigate how surfaces influence how far objects roll. 
  • Compare how far two objects of different sizes roll and see how surface types (smooth vs. rough) affect rolling distance.
