From the Instructional Specialist

We are excited to introduce the Instructional Specialist role at Our Lady Star of the Sea in 2025. This role is part of Sydney Catholic Schools' (SCS) commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. The Instructional Specialist will lead school-wide initiatives, support teachers in delivering a high-quality reformed curriculum, enhance pedagogical practice and ensure outstanding student outcomes.

As part of this focus on learning, this year, students will have a "Learning Intention" glued into their Mathematics and English books for each new outcome covered. Teachers will also use a specialised stamp to mark progress accordingly.

Please note that this will not be completed every lesson, as outcomes often span multiple lessons. Additionally, students engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences and group activities, with verbal feedback frequently provided. Their book work is just one piece of evidence showcasing the wonderful learning that takes place in our classrooms.

To keep you informed about your child's learning, Mathematics, English, and Religion books will be sent home in Week 8 of every term. We encourage you to take some time to review their work and write a comment on the Parent Bookwork Record sheet. This is a great opportunity to stay updated on your child's progress and celebrate their achievements.

Below are two examples from our wonderful Year 2 students, who have made an excellent start to their learning in 2025.

We hope you enjoy looking through your child’s work in Week 8!
