Wellbeing

I would like to send a very warm welcome to everyone in our community, and especially the newest members of our community, our Year 7 students and families, and our new students and families from Years 8-11. Transitioning to a new year level, and the change of subjects, classes, new students and teachers can often anxiety, however we try to make the new year as smooth as possible. It is always difficult to navigate new surroundings, people, procedures and expectations. It takes time, energy and resilience.
We are here to support families and students in every way possible, so please reach out if we can be of extra support. Pastoral Teachers are the first port of call, and will assist you to find the best people to support your queries and needs.
During this time of transition, parents and carers need to be supportive, but also realistic in their expectations. This is an important milestone in your child’s life. There will be feelings of exhilaration, but also the fear of the unknown. Therefore, it will be important for parents and carers to be vigilant in monitoring their child’s mood and mental health during this time. They could easily become overly anxious.
NAZARETH SCHOOLTV – AN EXTENSIVE WELLBEING RESOURCE FOR PARENTS
Nazareth College has a very informative Parent Wellbeing Website – SchoolTV. I encourage you to go on the site to explore the breadth of information available to you. The leading Wellbeing educators in the country have combined to provide the most informative and up to date information available on a range of topics.
SchoolTV aggregates information from many great resources such as BeyondBlue and ReachOut, amongst others, and provides a single stream of independent factual information that saves parents time and confusion of searching online across multiple sites for information.
SchoolTV covers topics such as youth anxiety, transition, surviving Year 12, depression, self-harm, drug and alcohol use, cyberbullying and many others, offering clear explanations and guidance. There are also great links to relevant resources, videos and websites for further information.
Of greatest interest at the moment for many
of our community is the information on TRANSITION.
