Principal News - Week 1

Welcome Back to School!

It was wonderful to see our years one to six students return yesterday. For some of our younger students all that was visible was a box of school supplies with two legs below as they enthusiastically managed the task of carrying it to their new classrooms.  There was an abundance of smiles and joyful greetings as students were reunited after the break. Students settled quickly into their new classrooms and there was a lovely sense of calm across the school as the day progressed. We have been fortunate that the temperature has been tolerable for our students return unlike some of the hot days that we experienced in the last week of the holidays.

Our Prep students were at school yesterday for their individual interviews and to spend time with their teacher before starting their first day today. I look forward to sharing more about their first full days in next week’s newsletter.

Our first assembly will be next Friday February 6th.

If you have already been onsite, you may have seen some of the wonderful changes that have occurred over the holidays.

Shade sail installation

The assembly area is now shaded which will enable us to have assemblies outside on so many more days. The area looks fantastic and now provides additional shade in that play area. This new addition has finally been able to proceed with the reallocation of the Shelter In Place Building and in response to community fundraising which we are very grateful for.

Shelter In Place works

We have also had significant works completed on the 5/ 6 building in readiness for it soon becoming our Shelter in place Building. You will see new screens on windows, protective seals on doors and non-combustible materials in the beds around the building. There are new steps, new cladding on the lower areas of the building and tree pruning has taken place. There are still more works to be done, and this space is already looking fresh and modernised. All the works are due to be completed by the end of week three.

Staff Toilets

Over the break, stage one of the works on the staff toilets began. The area has been isolated so access to the office is through the front entry door from the ramp. Signage is up to direct you if you arrive and can’t remember how to access the office. As I write this newsletter I can hear (and feel) drills, concrete saws and jackhammers. As you can imagine, we are currently having some difficulty hearing all telephone calls, so we ask for your understanding if we ask you to speak up during a call. Please keep this in mind if you call us from your car whilst your air-conditioning is on full as this adds to our challenges in hearing you. Following completion of stage one, stage two will commence in the staff toilets opposite the hall. Both stages are due for completion early in Term Two.

Relocatable classroom removal area

We are now turning our attention to the next stage of improving our playgrounds and have commenced the process of turning the area where the relocatable classrooms were removed into an attractive and engaging play space for our students. We will move as quickly as possible on this area of the school and will keep you informed of the progress on this.

PST Conferences

February 12th is our first PST conference day for families to meet the teacher and to share information with the teacher. These are for students in years one to six. This is a variation to school hours day, and students attend on the day for their scheduled interview time. Prep students attend school for their normal hours. A Compass News feed will be circulated next week with times for families to book.

Wishing you a great first weekend of term one and we look forward to seeing everyone back for our first full week of the year.

Kind regards,

Tandy Johnson
