Wellbeing Report

Welcome Back!

We hope you have enjoyed a safe, restful and refreshing break. As we begin the new school year, we are delighted to welcome all our students back and to extend a special welcome to those students and families joining our school community for the first time.

This year promises to be an exciting one, as we celebrate the 140th anniversary of our school. We look forward to celebrating this special milestone with our students and families throughout the school year.

House Welcome Evening - Thursday 12 February

We warmly invite Year 7, Year 12 and new students, along with their families, to join us at Brigidine Campus for our very first House Welcome Evening.

This event provides an opportunity for families to meet their Learning Mentor Teacher and House Leader, while gaining a deeper sense of the House Spirit that is such an important part of life at St Joseph’s College.

Year 12 students will be presented with their Year 12 badges and we will welcome our Year 7 students and new students to our College.

Students are required to wear their academic school uniform to this event. Light refreshments will be provided afterwards.

The Resilience Project

This week during the Learning Mentor lesson, students have been introduced to our whole school wellbeing program, The Resilience Project. The program is centred on The Resilience Project’s core principals - Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy. Each lesson contains fun and engaging student journal activities.

The Resilience Project works with parents and carers in the school community, not only because wellbeing is relevant to them too, but because it helps to build the school-home connection. There is significant evidence that building the school–home connection is crucial to improving educational achievement and student wellbeing outcomes. This includes improved:

  • school attendance
  • social skills and behaviours
  • uptake of further education

Thank you to families who have purchased the student journal via the Campion booklist.

Families still requiring payment can process payment via Compass or in person at Student Services.

Uniform

It has been great to see students wearing their summer uniform with pride. Over the holidays some students have experienced significant growth, and as a result uniforms may no longer fit. We appreciate your support in adjusting or purchasing these items.

We remind families that the school hat is a compulsory item in Terms 1 and 4. Students are required to wear their school hat at all times when outside and we appreciate your support.

Wellbeing Team

Our Wellbeing team is located across both campuses. Students and families can contact the Wellbeing team via email wellbeing@sje.vic.edu.au

Students wishing to make an appointment or self referral can contact the team via email or gain assistance from the Learning Mentor teacher.

Mobile Phone Policy

At the end of 2025 students were advised of changes to our mobile phone policy. From the beginning of the 2026 school year, students are required to store and lock their phones in their assigned locker throughout the entire school day.

This also means students wishing to access the canteen can no longer use their mobile phone to pay for items. Acceptable payment options are - via the Flexi Schools app (prior ordering), using an Eftpos card or cash.

If students need to make contact with home during the day, they can do so through their teacher or student services.

We appreciate your support as we adjust to this change.
