Group Work Experience

Our work experience program has continued to go from strength to strength this year! We’ve had lots of students from across Years 10, 11 and 12 taking up some fascinating placements.
At the end of term 3, I had the privilege of accompanying a group of our students to Nutromics, an innovative Australian MedTech company based in Brunswick that is revolutionising diagnostic monitoring through their groundbreaking "lab-on-a-patch" technology. Founded in 2017, this rapidly growing company has expanded from 10 to over 50 employees. Their mission is to eliminate preventable deaths through continuous monitoring, and this truly resonated with our students.
During the visit, our students were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the headquarters, where they witnessed first-hand the cutting-edge facilities where this award-winning diagnostic patch is being developed and refined. The enthusiasm and curiosity our students demonstrated throughout the day was wonderful to see.
What made this work experience immersion particularly valuable was the opportunity for students to engage directly with Nutromics' professional staff - hearing authentic career stories and learning about the diverse pathways that led these experts into the MedTech industry. Our students practised their networking and interviewing skills in a real-world context, asking thoughtful questions about qualifications, daily operations, and the challenges of bringing innovative medical technology to market.
The experience provided invaluable insights into not only careers in science and technology, but also the broader employability skills of communication, teamwork, and initiative that are essential in any professional setting. We are grateful to the Nutromics team for their generosity in opening their doors to our students and showing them what's possible in STEM careers.
