What's Happening In Prep?

Our grade preps have been very busy this term, being productive learners and taking part in lots of fun activities!

Mathematics

The students have been learning to manipulate and sequence numbers from 1-20. They’ve been combining and separating small groups of numbers to solve addition and subtraction problems. The students have been learning about 3D objects such as sphere, cube, cylinder and cone and where we can see these shapes in the natural environment. They have been learning to collect data by creating and asking yes/no questions and recording responses to create a pictograph. Students have been learning to identify the mass of objects with language such as heavy and light. They identified the capacity of various containers such as full, half empty, and empty.

English

The students have been writing information reports, using adjectives to describe various groups such as people, places, and thing. They have been exploring how to write an introduction and using linking sentences in their reports. Students are completing daily phonics lessons in which they’re learning to blend and segment the sounds to form various VC (Vowel-Consonant), CVC and CCVC words. They do this through a range of activities like spelling quizzes, dictation, and sound swaps.

Inquiry

The students have been focusing on science aspects during Term 4, such as natural phenomena, seasonal changes, and how these affect our everyday lives. They have been learning how to look after themselves by exploring daily routines such as brushing your teeth, healthy eating, and healthy habits. Students began to identify different parts of their bodies and discuss privacy and respecting personal space.

Science Works

Students attended an excursion at Science Works and participated in a show which focused on exploring natural phenomena and the weather, delivered by a Science Works educator. They also had a chance to enjoy some free time in the Science Works learning spaces.

Prep Breakfast

Students had breakfast in their classrooms then got themselves ready for the school day. The morning encouraged students to look after themselves and prepares them for attending school camps in the future. Students arrived in their pajamas and ate breakfast together in their classroom before getting themselves dressed into their uniforms, brushing their teeth, and washing their faces.
