Our Year 11 debaters took on our teachers in a spirited debate on the topic: “The current school system kills creativity”. Thank you to Emma, Preeya and Stephanie for representing our student debaters, and to Imogen, Milla, Heidi, Monia, Niamh, Mr Rogusz and Ms Roche for officiating. The teacher team comprised of the endlessly talented Ms Bopf, the witty Mr Welch, and intelligent Mr Waldron, brought energy and humour with Mr Waldron’s “Skibidi Toilet” argument still being talked about! It was an entertaining and memorable event for all.
Congratulations to our incredible debating finalists who made it through to the QDU finals rounds, a remarkable achievement! Debating at Mount Alvernia in 2025 was one for the record books, with two new milestones reached: the highest number of Year 7 students joining the program and the most teams ever making the finals. We celebrate the success of teams 7.1, 7.2, 8.1, 9.1, 10.1 and 11.2. These teams showed an outstanding effort, balancing skill, teamwork and perseverance. We can’t wait to see what 2026 brings for our talented debaters!
If you are interested in joining the Mt A Debating Teams in 2026, you should have completed the online form that went out last week on MyMtA. If you missed this and still want to be involved, contact Ms Claire Hatchman as soon as possible.
To mark United Nations Day, our MUN (Model United Nations) Club hosted a trivia event testing students’ global knowledge and teamwork. From questions about international peacekeepers to fun facts about world landmarks, we learnt a lot about global affairs. It was a fun and educational way to celebrate the values of the UN and the spirit of international cooperation that the MUN Club embodies. A huge thank you to everyone who joined in and helped make the event such a success!
