Hats off to Teachers

Friday, October 31st is World Teachers’ Day, a time to celebrate the incredible dedication, care, and creativity of our teaching staff. This year’s theme, “Hats off to Teachers,” reminds us to pause and recognise the people who make a difference every single day in our classrooms.

To mark the occasion, we asked our teachers to share a little about what inspires them in their work. Below are some of the responses to the prompt questions:

  1. What made you want to become a teacher?

“I was good at school, and I felt I might have something to offer people, so teaching was a good fit for me”

“I always wanted to be a teacher. I remember telling my grade 5 teacher that I wanted to be a teacher. Firstly, a primary teacher and then a kindergarten teacher. In Year 11 I had a great role model, and I enjoyed Health/ Home Economics so much that I decided I wanted to be a secondary school teacher.”

  1. What do you love most about teaching?

That I am continuously learning. The variety in each and every day, being a part of our youth’s educational pathway and seeing them grow into young adults.

“The variety of our roles.”

“The thing that I love most about teaching is the students. I love the relationships we form and watching them connect new ideas and learn new concepts makes my day. Watch these wonderful people grow up and navigate through life's challenges makes me so proud of them. It is a very rewarding job, especially in a community like Donald.”

“I am inspired by the natural talent of people and what they can achieve, I love imparting a desire in people to aspire beyond this natural talent, to grow beyond what they think they can achieve - socially, emotionally and academically.  I love that I keep connected in many ways with students, staff and parents well after they have completed their time at school.”

“The best thing about teaching is the variety of tasks and dealing with different people, both students and staff. There's rarely a dull moment.”

  1. What do you look forward to most before the school day begins?

“Being at school and knowing that I might have an impact, and having people impact on me.   School in many ways is like my home, my family and my safe place.  It works best when people are doing their best and looking out for one another.   I look forward to being here each day.”

So, this World Teachers’ Day, let’s all take our hats off to our teachers!
