Year Advisors

Year 7 (2026)
As the Year 7 Advisor in 2026, I am delighted to say that the journey has already begun on a very positive note. Our recent Orientation Day was a wonderful opportunity to welcome our incoming Year 7 cohort and provide them with a meaningful first experience of life at JJCMHS. Students arrived with a mix of curiosity, excitement and a few understandable nerves, but these quickly faded as the day unfolded.
Throughout the day, students enjoyed a range of engaging taster activities in Music, PDHPE, Food Technology and Visual Arts. These sessions allowed them not only to explore new subjects but also to connect with peers and meet the dedicated teachers who will be guiding them next year. It was heart-warming to see them laughing, collaborating and supporting one another as they tried new things.
Morning tea and lunch were shared as one group, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere where friendships began to form naturally. The cohort demonstrated kindness, respect and enthusiasm, qualities that make me incredibly excited to work with them in the year ahead. They are truly a lovely group of young people, and I am confident they will bring great energy and positivity to JJCMHS.
As they prepare to begin their first year of high school, it is completely normal for some students (and parents) to feel a little nervous. Please know that we are here to support every student through this transition and ensure they feel confident, connected and ready for the exciting journey ahead.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at tarek.taouk1@det.nsw.edu.au. I look forward to working closely with our Year 7 families and cannot wait to see what the future holds for this wonderful cohort.

Year 7
And so the first year of high school for Year 7 has come to a close! It seems like it was only yesterday that there were 55 excited, nervous, eager and enthusiastic faces coming through the gate, to experience their first day here at JJ.
Semester 2 has seen the induction of our year group’s first SRC representatives for 2026. Congratulations to Anna, Alicia, Jessica and Sayed for being selected to represent their peers for the coming year! We know you will do us proud, and we know that our futures are in safe and capable hands.
On the academic front, it was so wonderful to see so many names appear on my radar for their academic achievements over the course of semester 2. Sayed, Campbell and Muhammed’s performance in History was one for the ages; Hien, Paul and Jeremy were calculated in their approach to Maths; Kaia, Campbell, Jerome and Leo eloquently articulated their understanding of English; Seke and Andina were in perfect harmony for Music; Marvin and Anna constructed some exceptional results in Tech; the Art classroom was Seke’s and Yesugen’s blank canvas, on which they created masterpieces; Paul, Andina and Xavi placed significant energy into, and gained some serious momentum in Science, and Muhammed and Aiden kicked many goals in PDHPE.
Year 7 was the year group with the top attendance percentage for the year! This is such a fantastic feat! It really does indicate your dedication to your schooling, and that you have a constant and consistent readiness for learning. Well done!
It has been such a huge year, and I can’t wait to continue on this journey with you into Year 8 in 2026. Congratulations on a fantastic year!

Year 8
Our Year 8 students have been busy preparing for the transition into Year 9. A key part of this process has been selecting their elective subjects for next year. Electives give students the opportunity to choose classes based on their interests and areas they’d like to explore further. With guidance from teachers and career advisers, students selected subjects that align with their passions and future goals. This thoughtful decision-making will help ensure they stay engaged in their learning and develop skills that matter to them.
We were also proud to celebrate the graduation of several Year 8 students from the RAISE mentoring program. Throughout the program, students worked closely with mentors who supported them in setting goals, staying motivated and developing strong study habits. This experience has helped them build confidence and feel better prepared for the challenges that await in Year 9.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 8 cohort for the enthusiasm and maturity they have shown. By making considered elective choices and embracing opportunities like the RAISE program, they are setting themselves up for a successful and rewarding Year 9.
We can’t wait to see what they achieve next year!

Year 9
This term has been a rewarding one for our Year 9 cohort, marked by steady growth, positive engagement and increasing maturity as they prepare for their transition into Year 10.
During our Berry Street lessons, students have been developing important study habits to support their learning across all subjects. They have explored strategies for organisation, focus and resilience and have begun to understand how purposeful routines and self-regulation can strengthen both their wellbeing and academic success.
A particular highlight this term has been the successful SRC campaign by Jesse, Shastine, Joe and Princess, who have been elected as our 2026 representatives. We congratulate them on their thoughtful presentations, their enthusiasm for leadership and their commitment to contributing positively to our school community.
As we reach the end of the year, I would like to wish all Year 9 students and their families a safe, restful, and enjoyable holiday break. We look forward to welcoming the group back as Year 10 students in 2026 and embarking on what promises to be a productive and rewarding year ahead.
Ms. Jessop
Year 10
Semester 2 proved to be an eventful and enriching period for our Year 10 students, who engaged in a wide range of meaningful learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
Term 3 Highlights
In early August, students from Years 7 to 10 took part in an insightful Police Workshop covering essential laws and guidelines to support their transition into adulthood. The session helped students better understand their rights and responsibilities as young citizens. Later in the term, Year 10 participated in the Love Bites Workshop, which focused on developing healthy relationship skills and recognising signs of unhealthy relationships, an important area of learning for adolescents. Book Week was another standout event, with students dressing as their favourite book characters and celebrating the joy of reading. The day fostered creativity, imagination and a strong appreciation for literacy.
Term 4 Highlights
Exam Week provided students with an authentic experience mirroring the structure and expectations of Year 11 Preliminary Exams. This helped them strengthen their exam techniques and build resilience as they prepare for their HSC pathway. In Week 7, all Year 10 students completed Work Experience. This valuable opportunity gave them practical insights into industries aligned with their interests. Students demonstrated maturity and professionalism while developing important skills related to workplace culture and operations.
These initiatives combined academic rigour with personal development, equipping our Year 10 students with the confidence, skills and knowledge they need for the senior years ahead.

Year 11
LifeReady Camp
Our LifeReady Camp was a tremendous success. The activities strengthened connections across the cohort and the standout moment was gathering around the campfire for the LifeReady sessions. Students engaged deeply in learning, reflection and meaningful conversations.
Leadership and Opportunity
We are incredibly proud to introduce our 2026 School Leaders: Amy, Omar, Sienna, Gabriel, Aylin, James, Mele and Tevita. They have already begun demonstrating the leadership, responsibility and school spirit we value in our senior students. A special thank you goes to our Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation Studies students, who exceeded expectations while leading the primary taster lessons. Your professionalism and enthusiasm were outstanding, you should all be very proud.
Year 12 Updates
Mentoring has officially begun, and HSC courses are now underway. Students are encouraged to set achievable yet challenging goals, maintain consistent study habits, and prioritise their wellbeing to ensure a healthy and sustainable approach to their final year.
Fundraising
Next year is shaping up to be an exciting one, with a range of year-group-led fundraising events planned to support both the Graduation Formal and selected charities. Keep an eye out at school and on social media for competitions, themed mufti days and more.
Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday.
Ms. Evans
