Rememberence Day Service

On Thursday 11 November, our Junior School Council spoke to students about the significance of Remembrance Day, highlighting the importance of pausing to reflect and showing respect to the men and women who served our country.
As a school community, we listened to the Last Post and observed a minute’s silence to reflect and pay our respects. It was a meaningful opportunity for our students to come together and acknowledge the sacrifices made for our freedom.
In the classroom
Year 1 students learned about Remembrance Day and the significance of the day. They talked about the brave soldiers who helped keep our country safe a long time ago. The students made beautiful poppy flowers as a way to remember and say thank you to these heroes! Remembrance Day helps us all to remember to be thankful for the peace we have today because of their courage.
Year 4
Remembrance Day is a significant day for all of us, as we take the time to honour and remember those who fought in World War I and all who have served in wars and conflicts since. Each year, on the 11th day of the 11th month, we pause for one minute of silence to show our respect and gratitude.
This week, students have been learning about the importance of Remembrance Day and sharing their prior knowledge about its symbols and traditions; including the significance of poppies, the meaning of the minute’s silence, and the bravery of the soldiers and ANZACs.
To commemorate the day, students have created thoughtful posters, bookmarks, and other creative pieces that reflect the themes of remembrance, respect, and peace.
