Year 8 English
In Year 8 English, students have been studying the young adult classic, S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders. They have closely read, annotated and analysed the text, and have debated and sought to justify what they think Hiton is trying to say through the novel.
The themes of social division and the need for empathy has resonated strongly with the Year 8s, who have recognised the relevance of these ideas to modern times, as much as they were relevant in the 1960s.

¡Guau, muy bien! Reflecting on a fantastic first year of Spanish at Coburg
As Year 7 students (SPA3, SPA5 and SPA7) wrapped up their final week of the school year, they took time to reflect on their learning journey in Spanish. Together, we explored both the WHAT (the content they learned) and the HOW (the strategies, tools, and learning habits they developed along the way).
Students then set meaningful goals for next year and worked collaboratively to create their own mini-lessons to teach their peers. It was an engaging way to consolidate their knowledge and celebrate how far they’ve come. It was wonderful to see their pride, confidence, and growing sense of achievement.
We also shared some creative fun by recreating iconic Spanish artworks, adding both cultural insight and plenty of laughter to the classroom.
Congratulations to all students on a fantastic first year of Spanish learning.I wish you all a great summer holiday. ¡Hasta pronto!

We are very proud to celebrate Anthony L from our Year 7 Advanced Spanish class and his dedication and effort this year. For his final assessment, Anthony created a beautifully illustrated storyboard and brought his story to life by explaining it in Spanish using high-frequency verbs, emotions and connectives.
Anthony’s story followed a character whose hat is blown away by the wind, setting off an adventurous search through the mountains with a friend. His strong artistic skills made the story visually engaging, while his imaginative storytelling kept the audience interested from beginning to end. Anthony showed real creativity in how he developed the narrative and confidence in expressing ideas clearly in Spanish.
A beautiful example of the integration of language learning and creativity.
