Year 7 Science at the Zoo

Our Year 7 students recently enjoyed a fantastic day of hands-on learning at the Melbourne Zoo, bringing their classroom studies on animal classification and adaptation to life.

The excursion offered students the chance to see first-hand how a wide range of animals have evolved and adapted to their environments. Throughout the day, students explored a variety of exhibits and were lucky enough to see many animals active and on display, from gorillas enjoying their lunch to tigers showing off their mighty roars. Of course, the meerkats were a crowd favourite, capturing everyone’s attention with their playful antics and curious behaviour!

A highlight of the day was the interactive zoo workshop, where students examined real animal skulls and bones. including those from snakes, cassowaries, anteaters, giraffes, and seals. By observing these features up close, students gained a deeper understanding of how each species is specially adapted to survive in its unique habitat.

The excursion provided a perfect blend of science, discovery, and fun, helping students make meaningful connections between theory and the natural world. It was a day full of curiosity, teamwork, and appreciation for the incredible diversity of life on our planet.
