Scotsburn SleepoverThis Thursday 30th October - Friday 31st October

Below are all the details that you will need to have your child/children ready for Thursday night and Friday. If you have any questions, please pop in and see any of the Scotsburn staff prior to Thursday night. We cannot wait!!!

Thursday

3:30pm - Students head home with normal pick up arrangements from Scotsburn

6:30pm - Students arrive back at Scotsburn after having dinner at home. Parents can help students set up beds in classrooms (Boys in SC2, Girls in SC1). A reminder to please not bring any swags or small tent structures. In previous years we have had some of these and we have been very squashed in the classrooms! A single mattress is perfect.

Students will then have a chance to play some tabloid games on the oval and maybe even a little disco on the oval!

7:45pm (approx) - Movie night on the big screen! The whole community is invited to come and watch the movie on the oval (parents, siblings etc). Please remember to bring some chairs and a blanket or two, as it is sure to cool off. We are asking to not bring any snacks and food along for the movie. We will have enough popcorn and warm drinks for everyone, and this will ensure that everyone has the same experience. We understand this message is different to that which is on the Compass event, however after some discussions we feel it better to ensure we as a school provide all food and drinks.

After the movie has finished, families can say good night to their children and head home. Students will get ready for bed and head into the classrooms.

Friday

After breakfast, students will begin the school day with some biscuit decorating activities and sports on the oval. We will also have the Buninyong Playgroup in with a Halloween themed disco in the shed, which will be fun. School will provide all breakfast, lunch and snacks for the day on Friday - leave it all to us!

In the afternoon, we will aim to stagger our pick up from any time after 2:30pm, so that our carpark is not too busy at the end of the day rush. We will communicate this via Compass on Friday.

Below is a reminder of our suggested packing list

Students will need the following:

  • Sleeping bag and pillow
  • Mattress
  • Pyjamas
  • Toiletries
  • Clothes for the following day (casual dress day - suitable attire, closed shoes, no singlets)
  • Water bottle
  • Camping chair for the movie
  • Any medication - clearly labelled in original packet (must have filled out medication authority form)

What a great start to the term! A huge thank you for ensuring students started the term rested and ready for learning. The first few weeks have certainly been fun and fast.

This term, students in SC1 will be engaged in exploring places and spaces of Australia, beginning with a focus on Victoria. We are now exploring how the country is broken up into different states and territories.

In Maths, we are learning about fractions and place value.  Exploring the idea that fractions represent parts of a whole divided into equal parts. At this stage, the focus is on understanding simple fractions such as one-half, one-third, and one-quarter, and recognising them in everyday contexts. Students start to see how fractions help describe sharing and fairness, building a strong foundation.

In Literacy, we have been enjoying some literature by Julia Donaldson. This week's story is Tiddler. Our writing focus has been poetry. The children have enjoyed using their knowledge of rhyming words practised during our Phonics lessons to construct their short poems.

We are looking forward to the sleepover later in this week. Please get in touch with your classroom teacher if you have any questions with this.

Have a great week!

SC2 have once again hit the ground running to start the term, with plenty happening both in and out of the classroom. We have students involved in many extracurricular activities early in Term 4, including Art and Photography Scholarships, Energy Breakthrough, Cooking Program, Bulldogs Read Program and Regional Athletics. There is quite a bit of travel up and down the highway at the moment!

In the classroom SC2 have spent a few weeks diving into our Inquiry theme of Shaping our Nation, where we have been learning all about Australia's system of democracy and how we have continued to evolve and change as a nation over time.

In Reading, we have last week begun our literature study of the book Boy Overboard by Morris Gleitzman. Whilst reading the text, we are analysing the style of writing and how we can use it to improve our own writing.

In Maths we have completed our unit on data and statistics, this week turning our attention to fractions, decimals and percentages. I have been blown away with how  everyone has picked up some tricky concepts early in this unit, in particular our younger students in the class. Well done!

Two sleeps till the sleepover!!!

Last Thursday afternoon we managed to get lots completed in our vege patch, with all our students helping out with weeding, filling garden beds with soil, planting, watering and learning about maintenance and care of our vegetables and herbs. Ian Rossiter coordinated the afternoon amazingly well, bringing the students together to learn all about the process of propagating, planting and caring for our vegetable patch.

We also completed the form work for some big permanent compost bays, which will allow us to use all of our food craps and green waste in a sustainable way, to put back into our garden beds. The next step will be recovering our green house and installing some more permanent working benches there.

A huge thank you to Vanessa, Oona, Kylie and Casey who also came along to help the students for the afternoon.

Grade  6 Skateboards

Our Grade 6’s have eagerly begun the design process of their skateboard artworks- an annual Scotsburn graduation gift for our Year 6 students. The skateboard unit has become somewhat of a rite of passage for our graduating class each year, and we love seeing the personal expression that shines through with each student’s creation. Techniques involved include stencilling, painting, drawing, dripping and splattering, using spray paints, acrylics and Poscas. Stay tuned for the finished products, which will be revealed at our Christmas Concert in December!

No Scotsburn Assembly This Week

Due to the sleepover this Thursday night, we will postpone our scheduled Scotsburn assembly this Friday to a later date. We are sure everyone will be very tired by Friday afternoon!

Colour Run

What an incredible success the Colour Run was on Friday afternoon. The weather turned it on for us all at the perfect time and everyone got into the spirit of the afternoon. Not only is the event a fantastic fundraiser for the school, but it is also another wonderful community event on our calendar for all students and families. Have a look below at some of the awesome photos from the afternoon!

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
