Sports Leaders
Athletics Day
On the 6th of March 2024, our whole school met at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve for our traditional Athletics day. The students engaged in a ton of fun sports and activities; including Hurdles, Shot Put, 100 metre sprints and Long jump. Thank you to all the parents and guardians who came to watch and cheer on their child! Everyone was very puffed out after our warm up, given by our Year 6 Athletics day leaders, but they were up and ready again for a day of fantastic activities and a lot of heat!
One of our favourite events was 200 metre sprints. It was optional, so it was very nice to see so many kids volunteer to run with their friends! The 100 metre sprints were also super awesome! Everyone had heaps of fun and it was heartwarming to see all the kids laughing together. We loved running with all the students and hope everyone had an incredible time sprinting their hearts out, no matter what place they came!
Chicken throw was very fun for the people who love discus. Chicken throw is basically the same thing as discus except you are throwing squawking chickens instead. For this event you get no ribbons, so some people didn't like it. But it's still a favourite for some students.
The teachers relay works by having a hat, tutu, handbag, chicken and tie. And then you dress up and you race and then you take everything off and put it on them and repeat and once you had your turn you sit down.
In conclusion, Athletics day was a big success with every face full of joy and laughter despite the hot weather. The day included the fun events that were planned by the wonderful Mr Gately and the fabulous sport leaders. There was a lot more going on than some people noted, as districts were coming up and all the Year 3-6 students were timed to get our fastest students to compete in the next round at districts. Wwe hope that everyone had fun participating on St Joseph's Athletics day 2024.
