Intermediate Volleyball

On Friday the 22nd of March, BSC embarked on a volleyball quest to Daylesford, with two teams trained and ready to compete. With Mr Green coaching the B Team and Mr Webb coaching the A team, selection was based on who would work well together, rather than skill, as teamwork had played a huge part in the games played against the senior students in the previous week. Rylee Jacka-Mulgrew's excellent serving kept the B team in the game against Ballarat High but unfortunately they were unable to come away with the win.

After their jostle with Ballarat High, the A team came up against the B team. Josh Fraser and Rylee were amped up, with Rylee once again serving and taking out the first set for the B Team, while Annie Kehoe and Tom Grant were still getting warmed up. In the second set Tom, alongside Callum Mahoney, willed the A team toward victory, taking the game to the final set. The overall great performance by the A team meant they were able to take the win against B team, with Kita Cooper and Matilda Venes producing some great serves.

In their final game, the B team pushed Mount Clear to a final set thanks to the leadership of Tristian Drinkwater. Meanwhile, the A team came very close to defeating Ballarat High, with scores sitting at 23-25 in the first set, followed by 24-26 in the second. This was largely thanks to the teamwork displayed by Kita and Harry Welsh.

Thanks to Mr Webb and Mr Green for coaching and all the students who participated, representing the school to a high standard.

House Cross Country

On Wednesday the 27th of March, students and staff alike prepared for some rigorous running in the BSC House Cross Country. Year 11 student, Tom Lyons, was hoping to continue his dominant performance, whilst others were determined to do better than the previous year.

With all the competitors lined up at the starting line, locals must have heard about the big race, as cars seemed to gather on Lake Road, delaying the start of the race. Finally, the race got underway, with Billy Welsh, Tom Lyons and Fletcher Holz jostling at the front of the pack, each desperate to walk away with the win. Not far behind, Mrs Fisher was nipping at the students' heels, waiting for her moment to pounce. Annie Kehoe took the lead for the female students, although last year's Female Champion, Meg Lyons, was not far off her pace. Not all were out to take the gold; Logan Sandlant set a personal goal to maintain a pace under 5 minutes per kilometre.

As students started to cross the coveted finish line, first in was Tom Lyons, with a time of 22 minutes and 34 seconds, followed closely by Harry and Billy Welsh. The first female across the line was Annie Kehoe, besting her brothers, Max and Tom. Meanwhile, there was hot competition in the 13 Year-Old Girls age group, with Maddison Wade and Milly Kerr tying for 1st Place.

With the day drawing to a close, there was to be only one House winner. The successful team on the day not only had the best results but also the greatest number of students competing. Led by Felicity Stares, who also won her Age Group, Taltarni (Red) took out the honors in the annual House Cross Country competition. Kambara came second, 20 points behind, followed by Wandarra and lastly, Tanaranga.
