VISUAL ARTS

ARTIST ON THE RISE

In Year 10 Art class, students are working on their Myths and Legends Learning Task, which involves exploring personal interpretations related to this topic to create a unique mixed media artwork on a wooden board.

Helena Huang (Year 10) has exceeded expectations, crafting an artwork that is not only visually stunning but also highly creative. Drawing inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of Dunhuang, Helena has created her own legend centred around the QingQue "blue bird" goddess, the protector of birds.

Her artwork stands out for its striking combination of textures and colours. Her thoughtful use of complementary colours, combined with her original approach to mixed media - using air-dry clay and acrylics - enhances the visual impact of the piece and adds another layer to her narrative.

Helena Huang has truly embodied the values of creativity and success, following her unique vision for the task while still meeting the requirements and incorporating the teacher’s feedback. We are excited to see what the next step in her artistic journey will be!

Meanwhile…the rest of the Year 10 Art students are still working on their masterpieces. From painterly media like watercolour, acrylics, or oil paints to more creative materials like tiles, clay, sand, or newspaper, students have been exploring different techniques over the last few weeks stepping out of their comfort zone.

The standard of work this semester has been exceptional and I am truly proud of my students’ progress and dedication to their pieces.

If these young artists sparked your curiosity and you want to find out how these artworks will look in the end, don’t miss the Senior Art Show at the end of the year, where some of these paintings will be on display.
