SENIOR GIRLS FOOTBALL
Last Thursday, the Senior Girls Football team made history at McKinnon as they became the first ever girls football team to play in a State Grand Final. They were sent off in the bus with a crowd of supporters and had an even bigger support group that attended and cheered them on.
Strathmore started well, taking an early lead with the strong wind. Our girls fought back in the second half, finishing well, kicking the last two goals. The final score was 18-39.
Hannah Foran (Year 12) finished her football career at McKinnon with the Best on Ground medal for the team. The girls showed incredible spirit and integrity throughout the whole year of playing and we are all so proud of their incredible achievement to be runners up in the state out of over 1000 teams. All the players who played on the day and the players who were injured and missed out, were all a part of this history making team and should feel so happy with what they have achieved.
A huge thank you to all the helpers and supporters throughout the year!

YEAR 7 LUNCHTIME SPORT 2024
The Year 7 lunchtime sports program has provided students with a dynamic and engaging environment to participate in volleyball, basketball and netball. These lunchtime sports were designed to promote physical activity, teamwork, and sportsmanship while fostering a positive school culture.
The introduction of volleyball has been well-received, with enthusiastic participation from all Year 7s, which had 60+ students eager to be involved. The students have demonstrated impressive skill development, with noticeable improvement in serving, setting and spiking techniques that have been developed during their PE classes.
Basketball also saw a great level of engagement and support from fellow peers and staff, who created a lively environment during the final, which featured the finest basketball players in the year level. A house vs house competition which was conducted over numerous weeks, ended with a final between Gilmore and Chisholm. It was a tight match, both teams’ neck and neck, however two missed free throws at the end of regulation deemed Gilmore to be Year 7 Basketball Champions!
Like basketball, netball demonstrated a great turn up of Year 7 students eager to participate and support each other in friendly games between their fellow peers. There were a great number of Year 7s that attended the lunchtime netball, as there was a full game on all three courts in the multi-courts.
Thank you to all Year 7 students who participated in the lunchtime sports and a big thank you to Mr Woolhouse, Mr Hudd, Mr Jhoomun and Mr Farthing for organising and umpiring the matches, as well as the house captains for their support and involvement during the lunchtime sports!
