AUSTRALIAN HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY COMPETITIONS

Last semester, students across the College had the opportunity to participate in the Australian History & the Australian Geography Competitions. The competitions tested students' Humanities skills against students from across the country. Students with high grades were presented with their certificates in our recent General Assembly.

GEOGRAPHY COMPETITION

The geography competition ran with a much wider group of students, and we had lots of high achievers across the whole cohort. The following students achieved a High Distinction.

High Distinction

  • Adele Brown, Joshua Chan, Leo Li, Ella Malhotra, David Serebro, Yannie Sung, Nathan Wen, Leo Yang and Lucius Yuan (Year 8)
  • Arnav Ahlawat, Alisa Krivulin, Hamish Marsden, Eli Poon, Beau Reynolds and Ishita Tiwari (Year 9)
  • Roger Yan and Callum Campbell (Year 11)
  • Flynn Howe and Olivia Rusin (Year 12)

We also have two amazing young people who managed to receive an award in the top 1% of the participants in their year level. These are both Year 8 students so we look forward to seeing them progress through the levels in geography at McKinnon.

Top 1%’ Students

Augustas Buividas (Year 8)

Laksshan Janakiram (Year 8)

We highly recommend students participate in both the Australian History & the Australian Geography competitions in 2025.

Thank you to the school for their support of the program.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT: QANTAS GUEST SPEAKER

Hearing from David Broadbridge, who has spent over 25 years analysing Qantas's data, has been incredibly valuable. His deep expertise and extensive knowledge has given me a much richer understanding of how Qantas implemented strategies during the COVID-19 period, while operating in unprecedented challenges.

We also got a deeper overview of Qantas CEO; Alan Joyce, allowing us to link his management and decision-making with Qantas performance over the years. With this newfound perspective, I feel more confident in applying these strategies to our upcoming exam, ensuring a stronger and more informed approach when answering questions, overall making this a really valuable experience.
