Engaging in our Faith
Making our homes places of stillness occasionally...
How about making a little Prayer Space somewhere in Your Home?
Our Easter Prayer Place Ritual for Home
(Mrs Stella invited teachers to do this at school in the classrooms
this week for the Easter Season)
Invite your family to sit reverently in front of a little prayer table and begin by saying…
Take 3 deep quiet breaths and settle yourselves.
Make the sign of the cross.
Easter began last weekend. We’re going to change our prayer place. This is a place where we can be quiet with God. During the Easter Season we will have some various objects to help us to be with God.
Cover the table with a white cloth.
At this time of the Church’s year, we place a white cloth on the table. White is the colour of joy. Easter is a time of joy. It is the time when we celebrate Jesus rising from the dead. The season of Easter is the most important celebration of the Church’s year.
Hold the Bible up for all children to see. Be conscious of handling the Bible in a reverent manner.
This is our special book which we call the Bible. At this time in the Church’s year, we remember and tell the stories of when Jesus rose from the dead.
Demonstrate how to carry, lift and hold the Bible in a reverent manner.
Place the Bible on a stand on the table.
Take out a candle and show to children.
The candle reminds us that Jesus is always with us. We will light the candle when we are talking and praying to God or when we are listening to the stories from the Bible.
Place the candle on the table. Take out the crucifix and show the children.
The crucifix reminds us that Jesus died for us. But most importantly we know he rose again to give hope in this world. Place the crucifix on the table
This is our prayer place for Easter
Point to the symbols and objects as you name them again.
It has white a cloth, a Bible, a candle, a Crucifix.
In your home you may have other symbols as well such as white flowers or a photo of your family that you can add to the prayer space.
Maybe you can gather as a family once a week to say a prayer during the next 50 days of the Easter season. Perhaps say the "Our Father" prayer then finish with the sign of the cross.
Alleluia Jesus is Risen!
This is a photo sent to me by a beautiful Kindy parent who had set their Easter table at home with the "Alleluia" sign that was sent home to be buried until Easter Sunday. Making our homes an echo of what happens at school is a wonderful way you can support us a Catholic school.
Congratulations to Oliver Xu (Year 5) Maxwell Xu (Year 1)
and their parents Stephen and Jennifer and
Steven Han (Year 5) and Ian Han (Year 2) and their parents Daniel and Yan for being admitted to the Catholic church on Saturday at the Easter Vigil. It was beautiful to witness, and the children shared their experience in class to all their friends.
Want to help out every now and then with the Vinnies Brekky Van on Sunday mornings?
Be a part of the new Parish/school team that cooks from 8 am- midday at Central station on a monthly basis. You don't have to commit to each month! It is a great thing for your children to see you do and they can be involved in some way from home too. All volunteers need to be over 18 years. There are some online forms that need to be done in order to proceed and a WWCC and police check. This can take time for busy parents which is why I am asking now! The dates we have been given specifically as a school team to fill are 22 September, 27th October and 1 December. So far, I have had 6 wonderful parents sign up but the more the merrier!
Many thanks,
Anne Gray
