Learning In My Level

A celebration of what's happening across the school!

Level 5/6 News

Level 5

The Level 5 students have made a wonderful start to 2024. They have made a seamless transition from Level 4, quickly establishing classroom norms and adapting to the new routines and expectations that come with being a part of Level 5.

A special mention must be given to each and every one of the Level 5 students for the positive and calm manner with which they completed NAPLAN over the past two weeks.

Inquiry:

Inquiry sessions each week have been hotly anticipated by the students this term. They have explored the science behind natural disasters, and the impact to human life that they bring. As part of their exploration of the different natural disasters, the students conducted a variety of experiments to further their understanding of the science behind each. The students have demonstrated a wide-ranging knowledge of the concepts, which enabled for many rich student led discussions and learning amongst the cohort.

Take a look at the pictures below of what we got up to.

Level 6

Wow! What an incredible start to term Year 6 has had. Over the last 7 weeks, Year 6 has settled into the school year very well. Routines have been set and learning has begun.

In maths we have been looking at the four operations and delving into addition, subtraction, multiplication and division strategies. In writing we have been focusing on persuasive texts and in reading we are enjoying The Wild Robot and all the learning surrounding this novel.

In inquiry the students have been learning about natural disasters. We have created our own water cycle, re-enacted earthquakes and simulated tsunamis. The students are excited to apply their knowledge in a research project on a natural disaster of their choosing.

At the beginning of the term, each class participated in our start-up program to allow everyone to get to know each other and settle into the new class. Classes did get to know you activities and were able to create some great displays for the rooms.

In Week 6, the year 6 cohort trekked off on a big adventure to Camp Coonawarra. This lovely camp is located about 3.5 hours from Rangeview near Bairnsdale. Over the 5 days away, the students participated in thrilling activities such as a giant swing, flying fox, high ropes, a large outdoor maze, a climbing wall, raft building, canoeing and hut building. The students were able to interact with students they maybe don’t usually and soak up the summer sun with their friends.

As we had some lovely warm weather, the students were able to live it up in the camp pool and cool off (teachers too!) Camp Coonawarra was a great experience and allowed students to spend quality time with each other in their final year of primary school. What a great week full of memories everyone will hold on to forever. The staff on camp were very proud of all the leadership that the students showed and the effort and bravery a lot of students showed during activities.

We are so excited for an awesome year ahead!
