Principals Message

Welcome 2024 School Council

All government schools in Victoria have a School Council.  School Councils are legal entities that are given powers to set the key directions of a school within state wide guidelines.  In doing this, our school council directly influences the quality of education that our school provides for our students.

School councils have three main responsibilities:

Finance: overseeing the development and expenditure of the school’s annual budget and ensuring proper records are kept of the school’s financial operation.

Strategic Planning: participating in the development and monitoring of the school strategic plan.

Policy Development and Review: developing, reviewing and updating selected policies that reflect a school’s values and support the school’s broad direction outlined in its strategic plan.

Our final meeting for the 2023 School Council was held on 28th February. I would like to take this opportunity to thank outgoing members Shane Dove and Amanda Askwith for their time, dedication and committment to being an office bearer.

The nomination period for parent and DET reps has now officially closed and at next weeks Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 27th at 6:30pm we welcome our newly appointed 2024 School Council respresentatives.

Our School Captains: Hannah Kolody, Holly Dove, Sienna Giles and Indi Bentley, will be welcomed as co-opted members of School Council.  Students have a unique perspective on learning, teaching and schools. We believe having student members on school council allows students to have a say in the future direction of their school and ensures student input into decision making. Student representation on school council also assists in the development of students’ skills, including leadership skills and communication skills.

We would like to welcome our newest parent members: Emma Semaan, Kiley Woods, Sophie Visser, Shane Paynter and Jade McIntosh. Paul Zelenewicz continues to stay on the panel for another two year term and we warmly welcome back Cindy Coulson and Jade Farmer both of which are in their second year of council.

Welcome to our new DET representative Meaghan Bartrop, whose current role is Learning Specialist in the Foundation team. Both Rick White and Sarah Nash continue in their role on school council along with Principal class entities - Cameron Nicholls and Naomi Landmeter.

Thank you and congratulations to all office bearers, we are extremely excited to begin the 2024 school council year with a full panel of 15 members and look forward to year ahead.

Have a safe and happy Easter break

As we come to the end of Term 1, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on what has been busy term full of exciting and enriching experiences that have impacted the students learning and growth, both academically and personally.

Our students have had a fantastic time participating in a range of sporting activities, including the Swimming Sports, Regional Swimming Competitions, Whole-School Athletics Day, District Athletics and next weeks end of term AFLX Competition just to name a few. It has been wonderful to see so many of our students enthusiastically participating in these events and displaying excellent sportsmanship.

In addition, our students have been actively involved in community events such as Clean Up Australia Day and the Easter Bonnett Parade. These events have allowed our students to develop a sense of social responsibility and appreciation for diversity and cultural awareness.

Finally, our year 3 and 5 students have also participated in NAPLAN testing this term with our Foundation and Year 1 students participating in the English Online Interview. We are confident that our students have put their best foot forward and we look forward to receiving their results in the coming weeks.

As we approach the Easter holidays, I would like to remind parents and students about the importance of rest and relaxation. We encourage our students to take some time away from screens and devices and to engage in outdoor activities and creative pursuits. It is also important for our students to prioritize their wellbeing and to maintain healthy eating habits and regular exercise. The holiday period is a great opportunity to unwind and spend quality time with family and friends.

Looking ahead to Term 2, we have an exciting lineup of events and activities planned, including the start of winter sports. We are looking forward to another term full of learning, growth and success for our students.

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community. We wish you all a safe and enjoyable Easter break.

Sincerely,

Naomi Landmeter
