Term 1: Week 9

WELCOME TO WEEK 9!

LAST WEEK

NAPLAN:

Congratulations to our Year 7 and 9 students who commenced NAPLAN last week. Students will continue with more NAPLAN testing this week. Best of luck in this final week of testing.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:

Last week across all classes, students were reminded of classroom expectations to ensure they finish the term strong. We look forward to acknowledging good learning and positive examples of community and perseverance in these coming weeks.

LOOKING AHEAD

REMINDERS:

PARKING:

Parents are reminded to use the Stop-Drop-Go Area or road parking to pick up and collect their children. We have had some instances of cars being parked across driveways.

ONLINE BULLYING:

The eSafety Commissioner is a resource recommended for parents/carers to report any online harassment and bullying. We encourage families to communicate with the school and also access this link should their child experience online bullying or harassment: https://www.esafety.gov.au/report/forms

COLLEGE DIARY:

A reminder that the College diary is an excellent organisational tool for families and an essential communication device between home and school. Please record any notes or concerns you may have in your child’s diary to communicate with staff.

E-SCOOTER MISUSE:

We are still witnessing students misusing e-scooters in and around the College. Whilst they are a great option for getting to school on time, we have had a number of near misses with cars. We also have concerns that some of our students may be in breach of Queensland Transport Law.

If you have not discussed these laws with your child, please click the following link and discuss, as a family, what it means for students on e-scooters: https://bit.ly/QLDGovernmentScooterRules

NO E-SCOOTERS ARE TO ENTER THE COLLEGE VIA SUNBIRD DRIVE

Our main area of concern is our Sunbird Drive entrance (Trade Training Centre carpark), due to the tight footpath and heavy traffic. Therefore in order to mitigate risk to students safety from next week students will not be permitted to enter with e-scooters from the Sunbird Drive.

The video below aptly named 'RULES FOR RIDERS', developed by the Queensland Government, is a fantastic resource that we encourage all families watch together: https://bit.ly/QLDGovtScooterRulesVideo

SCHOOL TV:

School TV is a new resource for parents accessible through the College website. Family Connect have been able to sponsor this excellent resource that will assist parents in navigating the complex and turbulent time of adolescence. The information and resources is evidenced based from leading psychologists and organisations working with young people. Please use this resource as required and always stay in conversation with the College should you have concerns with your child.
