Celebrating our multicultural kinder

Through Term 1 the four year old classes have been learning about our multicultural classrooms.

We started this by celebrating Lunar New Year with lots of craft, books and videos.

In Blue group, we learnt about the world map and what countries we come from.  We  linked each child to the country that their family originally came from and the children we were very eager to learn who shared the same cultural background as them, with the majority of children in the class coming from India and China.

The classes have also been learning about different flags and we have been playing a memory game with different world flags, we also learnt the meaning behind some of these flags. Blue group and Orange group also tried creating the flag which represented their families cultural background. This project saw the children using their fine motor skills to roll tissue paper into small balls and glue these onto a flag template. In Orange group, the children have been learning some different songs about multiculturalism and how to say hello in different languages. The classes have also been reading books about multiculturalism and inclusion, including 'Whoever you Are, Where ever you Are' and 'I'm Australian Too'.

Through all of these learning experiences, the children have been sharing information about their families, getting to know each other and exploring similarities and differences. At the end of term we have been learning about Harmony Day which has really been every day this term!
