Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

Junior Sport - End of Term 1

It has been exciting to see nearly all the boys in the Junior School out on the ovals trialling for Winter sport teams. The standards are very high across the codes, which should make for an exciting season ahead. Thank you to all our coaches for their time and effort in setting up and running the trials over the last few weeks.

By the end of this week, all boys should know their team allocation for Round 1 of Winter sport. The first three rounds are an extension of our trial period and boys have the opportunity to move teams during this time. It is quite reasonable for some boys to be initially disappointed with their selections. Boys should use this as inspiration to push forward and train/play harder and improve their skillset, providing themselves with the best opportunity to move teams. On the flip side, some boys may feel pressured to work hard to remain in their selected teams, as others have the desire to move up the ranks. In the end, it is these attitudes that drive and increase the performance of individuals, teams and the overall College.

The Winter season starts with Round 1 on Saturday 4 May, the first weekend in Term 2. Training will therefore begin on Tuesday 30 April, the first day back of Term 2 for students. By the end of the week, I hope to have both the draft season draw made available on the College App, along with the training schedule. Please note that these documents are drafts and subject to change. However, the training schedule should have few changes as all coaches are now onboard. Please keep an eye out for the notifications on the SPC App.

Over the past week, Benjamin Gan of Year 6 spent time in Spain and Portugal, playing Football in the IberCup Tournament. One of few boys selected from Australia, Benjamin played against the likes of FC Barcelona (scoring for Australia), Portuguese C.F Beleneses and the Spanish team Deportivo. The Australian team made it through to the quarter finals, where they were unfortunately knocked out by Spain. We look forward to seeing Benjamin representing the College this season and displaying his skills and learnings from the IberCup Tournament. Congratulations Benjamin!

I would like to wish everyone a well-earned rest over the Term 1 break. May it be a time of rest and recuperation after a hectic Term 1. I look forward to seeing all the boys return to school ready for the term ahead and the start of the Winter season.
